Golden Corral--restaurant Review

The
Golden Corral is a buffet restaurant that you go to in order to fill up
on cheap, high carb comfort food for a reasonable price. Yes they have
an assortment of salads but you will see the people going for lasagna,
meatloaf, fried chicken, Chinese fried rice, Mexican rice, beans, chips
, along
with hot dogs, hamburgers and, depending what time you get there, steak
and/or ribs. There is macaroni and cheese, pizza, roast chicken, all
sorts of hot vegetables and various styles of potatoes
. They have skillet cornbread , Jalapeno
corn muffins and regular roles. Then there is the never ending desert
station filled with cookies, various cakes, puddings, jello and soft
serve ice cream, with assorted toppings
, that can be put into cones or dishes .

Most of
the dishes are too salty and very few would even come close to be
gourmet caliber but, and these are the selling points, there is a lot of
it, a big variety and it is cheap!

The
majority of customers are overweight but every once in awhile you will
see a skinny person--they are the ones carrying plates of fresh
strawberries and blueberries, who go to the dessert section and have
jello--then there is me and here are just a few of the plates I had:

Don't
know how many servings of peccadillo with rice that had but I do recall
3 servings of the lasagna and, yes, a fair tasting of the cakes and
pies plus the vanilla and chocolate soft ice cream.

We
had come out of the movie around 3 PM and walked into the Golden Corral
for a late lunch but it seems 'early bird' prices were in effect and,
including soda, tax and tip the price comes to $8.41 a person. Certainly
a good deal but one that you wouldn't indulge in too often not if you
want good food, to keep your weight down or care about your health.

My dad loved buffets and he was skinny, but he also ate all the high carb stuff. I think it was the cheapness that appealed to him. Personally, I hate buffets.

Way to go Martin! People can knock buffets all they want, but there are distinct advantages to them: every one in your group can usually find something they want to eat, you can get just a taste of the different foods and if you find something you really like, go back for more.

I love buffets but they aren't 'good' for me--that doesn't stop me!!

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!! That's looks like one of my plates when I eat buffet! I do that with Chinese. Thankfully, I don't do it often. Not a place to take a date! Although it's cheap.
