Black Friday Insanity

This is why I do not go shopping on Black Friday...the nuts are running loose.

A HERO STEPS UP: A U.S. Marine volunteering at a Toys for Tots toy drive today at Augusta's Best Buy stopped a violent shoplifter from fleeing and was stabbed in the back, authorities said. Marine Cpl. Phillip Duggan tackled suspect Tracey Attaway as the suspect was trying to leave, police said. Cpl. Duggan received a single stab woun...d to the middle of his back close to his spine, a non-life threatening wound. The incident started when Attaway tried to hide a laptop about 1 p.m. today and was confronted by employees and was subdued by employee Tommy Walker. During the struggle, the suspect produced a knife and Best Buy employees backed away from Attaway to keep the suspect from harming them or their customers. Attaway was eventually subdued by Cpl. Duggan and three other Marines, and he was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and weapon possession.

Have been avoiding holiday shopping for years. I understand, particularly in the current economy, why people are so desperate to pay less and meet all their obligations, but the craze for presents at Christmas has gotten way out of proportion. Also, I had friends who didn't feel like good parents unless each child got 30 gifts. That is insanity.

I agree with you. I never had a problem telling my boys we could not afford something. You will have to save up your money and buy it for yourself.

Oh well, we'll see (it'll bean excuse to have a lie in, in the morning anyway)
G'night Nancy, see you tomorrow

Hey! Are you frozen yet? The weather reports don't look good over there.

In this day and age, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the shop lifter and stab inflicter doesn't sue the Marine for some odd reason or another!

Oh My Gosh! That is what my boss said today. A sleazy lawyer will probably say he did it in self defense because the Marine attacked him.

I blame (partly) the stores for having these early madhouse sales. People were trampled in a couple of instances when doors opened.I would think the shoppers don't have a right to sue if they place themselves in such harm's way, and the stores are just money-hungry capitalist creeps anyway for doing this. How about normal hours and considerate shoppers for a change?

I completely agree with you on this.

Lucky that he survived

I agree. I hope they put the shop lifter where he will not see the light of day but with our lax judicial system that won't happen. He'll just get a slap on the wrist and probation.

What a relief it wasn't a mortal wound, a ridiculous circumstance in which to die. Can you imagine his descendants explaining how 'grandad' died?

The shop lifter should be thankful he is not facing murder charges right now.

I've never understood the Black Friday Insanity. Craziness.

The Marine was outside the store accepting Toys for Tots and according to the newspaper when the stop lifter ran by the Marine clotheslined him. When the guy got up he was swinging a knife and in the scuffle he stabbed the Marine in the back. Crazy!

Insanity is right! People were camped out in tents trying to get a 40
inch flat screen tv for 300 dollars here.

Thee are too many nuts around--how is the Marine doing?

Martin, according to the reports he is in the hospital with a non life threatening wound so he will be ok, thank goodness.
