The Prince Years

Follow me back to the mid 80's. I was a huge Prince fan, you know Purple Rain and all that? I dressed like Prince, the ruffly shirts, the cool hats. As I was of legal age, my and my best friend would hang out in bars. We had a favorite local band. Mike Hines and the Look. I think they learned Prince songs just for me. We followed them everywhere and at one time I dated the bass player. Player being the key word here. lol It was pretty cool to go to some bar and say we were with the band. Back to Prince. I lost a job due to Prince. I was working at Roses, a kind of walmart type store. Me and my best friend bought tickets to see Prince. On black friday, the busiet shopping day of the year. I told them at work that my grandma had died. My friend just called in sick. Yeah, we both got fired. Anyway that week we went to 2 Prince concerts. One in Philly and one in Baltimore. We even raced out of there to try and get a glimpse of Prince leaving. We almost missed the bus back to Delaware because of that. Prince's favorite color was purple, so most of my clothes were purple. It earned me the nickname of Miss Purple. lol Sounds dumb now but believe me, I was cool back then. My friend and I had dreams of moving to minneapolis and getting a job at the club that got Prince his start. She thought she could sing and I don't know what I was going to do, I guess just look cute. I had every album Prince ever made, including the remix singles. At my wedding the DJ's played Lets Go Crazy and me and my best friend danced to it. Me in my long wedding gown, playing air guitar.
I still listen to Prince, he is just not the focal point of my life anymore. Oh and his real name, Prince Rogers Nelson.

I understand being a fan — after all, I was a Beatle maniac at age 13 in 1964. Rock on!

I have the Prince the hits/b sides album. It's great to drive with, but not so cool when the kids or older family members are in the car too.

Purple Rain was also a favorite of mine. I laughed at your description of your wedding dance.

Don't hate me--I never cared for him--couldn't even stand looking at him--well, at least you won't get any competition from me for his heart!

Prince was great. I dated a guy once that looked like Prince but years after the look was cool. It is just my luck a dollar short and a day late.
