An Episode

Last night I had something happen that has not happened in years. We were in class and they were really working us. To begin with I was tired, and my stomach was in knots from nerves. I made it through the warm ups, barely. Then we began a kicking drill. We did one series and I had to raise my hand to ask to leave the mat. I believe my blood sugar level dropped. I have had this before, to the point where I would pass out. So I immediately went to a chair and put my head between my knees. I was shaking, sweat was pouring off of me. After it was over I was left feeling shaky and nauseous. I felt like an idiot for having to leave class and I will explain to the instructor what happened. Normally I eat a snack right before going to class. Yesterday I forgot to. Again, the nerves were attacking me. I knew better than to just push myself through it. I knew it was not going away and I really did not want to pass out in front of the whole class. LOL
I imagine they all thought the workout was too much for me, but I was a little suprised no one checked on me to see if I was ok. I think it was a combination of things. Getting overheated, the nerves, not having had a snack. It all combined to make my sugar level drop. I will not do that again! Too scary!

I've seen that happen to a couple of students myself included. For me I put it down to exhaustion and take a breather or leave the class compleetly, another student who suffers from it often over exhurts herself to try and prove a point, the menstral days take their toll too. But what worries me is...are you diabetic? Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to have another blood test again. Explain what happened in the club and make sure he checks your blood pressure. Eat next time even if it's just a bananna. bananas are full of energy carbs. Let me know how you get on.

I hope you are feeling better now...

You are probably right about the reasons, but I can imagine it was a horrible experience. I would have thought that an instructor or someone similar would want to check with you to make sure that you were all right and that it wasn't something more serious.

I keep those Reli-On tablets in my desk, if I think my blood sugar is dropping I eat one of those, and it brings it back up. You can get them at Wal-Mart. I keep them handy cuz I am diabetic.

You need to pack a small bag with some zone bars and bottled water to take with you.Orange juice would have helped last night if it was available.Take care of yourself Mary.I'm glad you are okay.I hope you didn't have to drive home feeling like this.I also am surprised nobody came to your rescue.Laurie

Hey, it's my turn to be sick--stop trying to steal my thunder!!!

I've had that happen. I've had to learn to eat well balanced snacks. Usually a combination of a carb and a protein. If I get both, I do very well. It's an awful feeling that I try to avoid as much as possible.

very scary - that's why I try carrying a granola bar or something with me at all times.
