The Blahs

I have had a major case of the blahs this week. I know it is stress and these issues with kota at school. I am giving the school the benefit of the doubt and involving kota in karate and we start counseling next week. But I do not see this child they talk about here at home. For instance, last night he got in trouble for being impatient about something and ripping open a bag of cereal, by accident. He wanted the stupid spoon that came in the box. But he couldn't wait for Daddy to help him while we put away groceries. So he couldn't have the spoon. He came up to us and asked what could he do for us to show he could be good. So we sent him on different little tasks around the house. Pretty soon he forgot about the spoon. lol But we gave it to him then.
Last night at karate the instructor asked if the two white belts remembered what they did yesterday. They went through the different moves, with only a couple of errors. The whole class applauded for them and cheered. The instructor said he was impressed that they both chose to try rather than say they didn't remember it all. The one thing we need to work on is his kicks. He does not get his leg up high enough in class. And I know he can do better, as we have played around outside pretending we are ninja's. I know it just that he is not completely comfortable performing in front of 'strangers'. But the other people in the class are so supportive and encouraging, so he will get over that in no time.
There are also some issues going on with soldier son but I do  not want to discuss that here.
I talked to daughter last night. She had class last night and said she got a phone call from someone at her work. Apparently there was a fire in a store at the other end of the shopping center. It caused the sprinklers to go off in their clothing store, but only in the back area not where out in the store itself. She wasn't sure if they would be open today as the fitting rooms were flooded and there was damage to their stock room. So they are probably doing clean up today. At least the sprinklers didn't go off in the store itself, its bad enough all of the clothes in the stock room were ruined!
well, I was going to write more about why I am blah but don't really see the point anymore. Its going to be a nice day here so I am going to sit outside and read and get rid of my farmers tan.

Life is made up of highs and blahs but mainly just an even keel--we deal with all and make it though especially when we know we have people who care and you certainly have many of them!!

I think it's that time of year for the blahs, I've been there too. Glad that Kota is enjoying karate, he'll learn lots.

Your poor daughter! That definitely makes things a little difficult!
It sounds like Kota is doing really well, and the other students at the dojo are being really supportive. That is really great!

Hi Mary, I'm sorry there are problems with soldier son. I will keep him in my prayers. I really believe that your instincts are right with Kota and you will soon have your answers. Counseling will bring out whether it's a school problem (I suspect) or an anger problem (I doubt). I'm so proud of him with his karate. He'll get the kicks and he'll build confidence. It will be great

I'm so glad you got him in martial arts. It made all the difference in younger son when he was little. Taught him so much confidence and acceptance. His behavior at school got better after that. I'm glad he's happy

Sitting in the sun with a book--sounds like a good cure to me.

I'm sorry to read that you have the blahs, Mary! I hope that you and your hubby and Kota all have a terrific weekend that manages to shoo the blahs away.

Honestly don't worry too much about his lesson in karate right now, the instructors are aware that new students are shy, confidence doesn't come over night. All children are different and 'will' be taught to fit their individual needs - as this is the only way to teach them this particular specialized skill.
