Wigs and Cats

I have been spending some time with my cousins and my
sister and the big push is on to get my cousin, Thelma
into a wig. She has perhaps three hairs on her head and a
bright pink scalp. So far her response is that people
would think she wants a man.

My sister and my other cousin, Jackie and I are extremely
aware of how we look and cannot understand Thelma's
stubborn stance on the issue. Thelma insists on going to
the beauty shop every week to have the few hairs washed
and set which is an exercise in futility. I think it is
just a matter of routine. Ted told me that he thought
Thelma looks at least two hundred years old. However,
there is no budging her despite our plotting.

My family is eccentric in many ways, (is any family normal?) One of the others is our extreme devotion to cats. None of the elders will go to assisted living
because what would we all do with our cats. I had to
give cats a miss after China passed away because of
Adrienne's allergies but I really miss them.

One time for a joke I bought some of that spray on coloring that is supposed to look like hair, but before I could give it as the joke, I discovered a bald spot on my own scalp where a bunch of hair had fallen out due to stress - somebody's gambling addiction, and it wasn't mine. I was also in danger of getting laid off from my job, so didn't need to be worried about that bald spot as I went around on job interviews, so I used that spray paint, and I don't know if it really wasn't noticeable, but it helped my self confidence.

Stress is a factor in hair loss but thin hair runs in my mother's family.
So does osteoporosis and my poor sweet cousin got both hits.

Oh, dear -- in my family it's me and my youngest sister who will not do or wear what the other sisters wish we would. If you can't talk her into a wig, what about a soft turban? My mom couldn't bear the feeling of a wig after chemo.

I hear that wigs have been greatly improved and are lighter and more
comfortable now. A turban might work.

Thelma is entitled to her derangement but you might suggest that she would be doing all of you a favor because her appearance is daunting. Sorry that you can't enjoy cats any more. Come to my house any time, but I just have two. Maybe a trip to Ohio?

Jon certainly has a plentiful supply! Think he would lend me Rinpoche?
