Stuff Happens

I have the shingles and I have had the vaccine so my
Dr. says just to let it go, it probably won't get bad.
Fine for him to say since his arm is not on fire.

My tomatoes have come on strong so I am making Salsa. There
is a lot of mulching and herb drying to be done in the garden.
I think I will dry the herbs in a pillow case on the back
porch. Flies will not be able to get at the herbs and
they should dry fine. I planted 52 pansies and it was
quite an ordeal.

I made some really good cookies today and I will post the
recipe. I took a zip lock bag to the highschool to pick
up Adrienne and Dakota and one would think fifteen year
olds would be pretty blase about cookies but they loved
them. I made plenty for everyone.

I doubt anyone could be blase about your cookies. They always sound to die for.

I send you lots of healing hopes, Jeri, and wish you are feeling better. I had chicken pox as a kid, but have not had the shingles vaccine yet. Must talk to my doc about it. So very sorry you got it....

Thanks for sharing the cookie recipe!

I got the shot also because my husband has shingles and sufferers a lot. He breaks out on his bald head. No body told me it was only 50% effective; at $200 a shot someone should have.
If I have a breakout, the shot is supposed to minimize the outbreak. So far, I am good.

Shingles mostly affect people who have become run down or don't eat healthy or are over-stressed. My sis had a years-long affliction that contributed to her death because she was in such pain, she could not exercise. She was always weight conscious, so did not eat right, subsisting on nuts and raisins, and overexercising without enough nutrition. She was also diagnosed late and the virus got a strangle hold on her and after that, nothing helped. If you are taking good care of yourself, you shouldn't have a problem.

Fredo have the vaccine. I had the vaccine and this is the first time I
have ever h ad shingles and I am telling you and Mike should not take a

I am cultivating acceptance.

I had shingles on my face and stabbed at it with my fingernails when I couldn't stand it any more.
One never outgrows "really good" homemade cookies.

I am hoping they don't surface on my face. This was not too severe and
didn't make blisters.

Oh, I'm so sorry! When it hits you, at first you have no idea what it could be. The pain can last for years, not as bad as now, but like a bad memory, you'll feel it along that nerve when you get tired.

The Dr. thought the vaccine would moderate it enough that it would never
form the big blisters. I am very sensitive to that virus, I was one huge
blister when I had chicken pox.

It wasn't until after I got the shingles vaccine that I found out it's only about 50% effective. For the price of it they should mention that up front. Hopefully your case won't get too bad. That's all you can hope for at this point I guess.
comment by jjoohhnn on Sept 30, 2013 5:58 PM ()
No, they do not mention that it is only 50 percent effective, do they. At
least the vaccine moderates it and they say now that you should have it even
if you have had shingles because it makes it less severe.
