Spoonerisms

I don't know if it is just me but my tongue has become
considerably less nimble than in the days of yore. I have
trouble with intricate words such as Venenzia and scramble
others. Recently to the amusement of my family I called the
Geek Squad the Gook Squad.

William Spooner was an Oxford Don who went from student to
Warden (head) of the college. Though famed for Latin
translations he was also known for verbal faux pas where
the sounds of two words are accidentally transposed .

Some famous ones are as follows

Ye Noble tons of soil for noble sons of toil.
A blushing crow for a crushing blow.
Our queer old Dean for Our dear old queen. Bet that one went over well!!
Is the bean dizzy? for is the dean busy and best of all
for announcing a hymn from the pulpit as Kinkering Congs for
Conquering Kings and
A nosy little cook for a cozy little nook.
Occupewing my pie for occupying my pew. You can probably
think of others.

Now I am pleading my approaching 84th birthday to absolve me
of my speech problems. That is when I officially become an
old lady. I occupy my time in trivial ways sometimes, hence
this post.

I have to admit, Gook Squad made me chuckle.

We all should be doing so well at 84. I'm only in my fifties and I find this happening to me all too often.

If getting old is an excuse for being cantankerous, that's okay with me!

I am not cranky...just can't quite get it together.

The oops of words in conversation, especially the serendipity spoonerisms that hatch, are such fun. Crack me up!

I can't believe how we crack up over these things.

Being a geezer is alot like being drunk--it's a good excuse for any behavior!

The good thing is we can get by with it more easily than if we were in our
cups!

Love all manner of word play, even the ones you didn't mean to say. Jay and I would try to outdo each other (in days of yore). We were a laugh a minute.

The very worst is when you get tickled at a funeral. It helps to bury your
face in a handkerchief and pretend to be sobbing. Not that I am callous
but I have learned to leave my funny friends at home.

we will continued on and as we grow older .
We will never be old unless sickness strike. But let us not think of these things.
I just lost my ex brother in law as he was a younger and sadly I really enjoy him when married.so sad as many of my friends or so call friends have left.
Where does this leave me.I dunno. So we have to live each day fully and enjoyed the surrounding around us.Live Free or Die.

I hope you and Ruby are on better terms now. It took Rex months to get over
his fear of men after I got him. Hopefully Ruby will respond a lot faster.
Being old is much better than the alternative.

My favorite is the kinkering congs.

You'll never be an old lady, officially or otherwise. I remember when you turned 80 and told us you had started throwing your old lady-ness around to intimidate store clerks.

I hope we never lose our joy and ability to laugh. It is a saving grace.
