Smorgasboard

I really don't have much to say other than I have lost my
momentum for raking leaves by staying on the computer.
Our house is situated in a spot that is like a funnel. All
the leaves blow into our yard and the one next door. I
picked up a trash bag full yesterday and it wasn't even
a drop in the bucket. It should be in the seventies today,
which is ideal for the job.

I have been thinking about regional speech quite a lot and
it is my hope that some of it will be preserved as it adds
a lot of color to our language. "All hat and no cowboy"
is a favorite of mine. So is "that dog won't hunt".

Humor me and let's compare.

Have you been inundated with junk mail? I feel sorry for
our postman. I think charities are selling their lists
because I keep getting more and more from places that I
never heard of. For example, I donate to guiding eyes for
the blind and get calendars from 6 or 8 more sites. The
ones that tear me up are the sites trying to maintain the
big cats. It takes so much to feed them. At the same time
I only donate so much money and there is not enough to go
around the animal rescue places. I wish they wouldn't
send tee shirts, Christmas cards or nickels to me. It is
definitely a misuse of their funds.

Back to language...let's change the F word to Swive. It
was good enough for Chaucer and it is good enough for me.

I believe that nasty f word is an acronym: Found Under Carnal Knowledge. It was written on placards posted under the heads of fornicators who were caught and placed in stockades. Don't know how it got to be a dirty word. The new f-word adopted by sci-fi fans is frak which originated with the Battlestar Gallactica series (new version).

When I went to school, in the second grade, some trickster had printed the f word on the curtain in the auditorium. I knew what it meant by then and we were all shocked to death.

...I read your title and it made me think of the Chinese buffet that my husband and I go to when funds are available.

I am tickling my tongue with this swive word…

If you try it out, it is going to send them right to google.

I was intrigued by this word. It wasn't in my dictionary, so I looked it up:

swive Verb /swīv/
swives 3rd person singular present; swived past participle; swived past tense; swiving present participle
Geat word!

Isn't it funny how language evolves. With new technology there is going to
be a lot of new words.

I'm not good with remembering local sayings. How about "Better than a stick in the eye".? I need a warm day to clean out my gutters. It may be too late. As far as gifts in the mail, I agree. I like the calendars, but the trinkets and cards/envelopes is too much.

It has become "better than a kick in the head" here.

We have all these sayings around here. For Example: Pretty is as pretty does is one my mothers gems. I have given everyone in my family a calendar
and still have two left.

Sorry, "Swive you" doesn't do it for me.

Maybe you could get used to it.

It's a dirty little secret.

Fortunately, we swept the leaves from the garden before the recent snow fall, so at least when it does thaw, it is clean underfoot
There was an item on the news this evening, that tickled me pink. The camera had gone to a zoo somewhere in the country and they were filming the Tiger house where they had been havinga lot, of snow. It captured a Tiger playing wth a gigantic snowball - it was truly hilarious!
I am afraid it is the Anglo - Saxons that we have to blame for the 'F' word!
I prefer the word Swive

I keep seeing that you are inundated with snow. I would have loved to have seen the tiger. The big cats are so gorgeous. I think it is so pathetic to see the ones who have been pets returned to the zoo. I also
think it is dumb to own one in the first place. There is a small tiger
refuge near hear and it is a constant battle to keep them fed. They are
all pets who have been rejected. The Anglo Saxons would be suprprised at
how the F word has caught on.

Oh Jeri! You typed the S word.

Swive! Interesting. I'm about to meet Laura! I really think (or hope) that animal rescue places only give away donated items....

I wish that I could be with the two of you. I am sending you a hug via
Laura.
