Shopping for Antiques

Yesterday, we went on a fun shopping expedition with Ted's
brother and his wife. We were doing the antique shops near
Lake Texhoma and one in particular had some really nice
things.

I was tempted by a gold French chair and an interesting
pot rack. The pot rack was the prettiest I have ever
seen and very old. It was hand forged. I would have
bought it if I had room in the kitchen. I have too many
chairs as it is.

We didn't manage to break for lunch until about four. We
stopped in Sulphur and I had wonderful Chili Rellinos.
Mexican food is my absolute favorite. Fortunately
Oklahoma and Texas abounds in good Mexican restaurants.
None can equal those close to the Mexican border, however.

I ended up with some Christmas ornaments, little bears
made from burlap and an accessory that there is no name
for but it is handsome. Ted's nickname is bear so he
loves bear items. His brothers dubbed him Bear because
he is so surly in the early morning. He is definitely a
night person.

Nova, my much loved SIL, loves doing crafts and has a craft
show coming up. She got a lot of ideas while we were out.
One of my prized items is a wood carving that she made for
me of a Victorian lady. She is very creative.

A small apartment is a challenge but it is easier to manage and keep
tidy. You and Kath do not need a lot of dusting and house work now.

What a fun time! Love to go exploring and see what I can discover, not that I have any room for anything but little treasures. But to go with friends is so welcome. Happy for you!

It is fun to find old things and to get decorating ideas. We have been
in a rut of late. I never had a brother and David is like a brother to me.

Driving through Oklahoma many years ago, by some miracle I got Mr. YouKnow/RoadWarrior to stop at an antique store in a little town, and I don't remember where it was. I found a framed picture that is a piece of the same fabric my mother had for drapes: a Grandma Moses design. I'll always treasure it.

I love Grandma Moses prints. They reek of old fashioned charm. Glad Gary
stopped for you.

Sounds like a fun day ... glad you could take a break from the routine. I love the name Bear for a guy. Ed's nickname with his late wife was Mouse and he still clings to it. He has mouse figures and a mouse note pad. Mausi in German means darling and she was German-born. So it isn't as if thinks of himself as mouse-like unless you count that he also thinks they are cute.

The break was great and we always have a good time with these relatives.
I sympathize with Ed's desire for mouse things because we have a lot of
bear stuff. Fredo gave Ted a smoky the bear one Christmas.
