Rex and His Problem with the Time Change

You have to understand that I belong to Rex and that he
has learned to shape my behavior. We get up between four
and six a.m. and I am good for a denta stix and a snack
after he gets back from his time in the back yard. Throughout the day, he indicates what he wants and I give
it to him if it is not a doggy no no.

I have accused him of having a watch concealed in his shaggy coat but have come to realize that he goes by
the amount of sunlight generated. He is extremely strict
about bedtime. Usually, I am OK with going to bed with
a book when he wants me to but now that it is getting dark
so early, he starts about 6:45. He paces, he pants, he
urges me to get up with his nose. He runs to the bedroom
every time I get up. I am not OK with this.

It is kind of tough being owned by a dog.

Yeah, things may have gotten a bit out-of-hand. Buster's behavior has changed considerably since he's become an only-dog, but the changes are mostly for the better. Even tho he's 13, he can easily go for 12 hours+ without going out. So I can take him out a 9pm and he'll go to sleep when he wants. Donna doesn't like the way he hangs around the kitchen when I'm cooking, but hey, he's a dog. Not admitting to anything here tho.

Come on..admit it. You give him snacks don't you? Being guilty myself,
I understand perfectly.

Rex is endearing. Max, my manx cat, is a spoiled brat and he'll harass you for something and when you try to give him what he wants, he goes around in circles so you don't know what to give him. Then he'll bat my leg.

Rex makes all his wants VERY plain. They involve food, outside, attention and he is a glutton for attention. Also he is stuck in his
routines. Things have to be the same ..he eats his snacks in a certain
spot at a certain time and he saves some of his food for bedtime. go figure!

It sounds funny and cute at first, but I can see what a problem that would be. He sounds like he is part guard dog, so probably wouldn't leave you alone to go to bed himself. If only he could be made to sleep where you are at that time.

He is an extremely spoiled Golden Retriever and it is funny to watch
and he always misbehaves when I won't go. His misbehavior consists
of removing paper from the waste basket and shredding it.

Hahah I understand... Maybe give him a Kong stuffed with treats and peanut butter to keep him busy until he gets used to the time change? Or any of the dog puzzle toys might work to keep him busy and not wanting to go to bed. I wish he could yeah the kids the beauty of sleeping!!!

I don't know why Rex does not like dog toys, only things he drags up by
himself like carcasses and such, or flaunting a pair of my underwear
throughout the house. He naps a lot during the day and I wish the
two toddlers of yours would develpp this trick!
