Cozy and Warm

We awoke to driving rain yesterday and chilly temperatures.
A day for good cooking, a fire in the fireplace,
and an excellent book.

I put a pork loin in the oven, built that fire that delights the eye and warms the body as well and settled
down with Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James. She
wrote this book in the style of Jane Austin and borrowed
Elizabeth Bennett and family as characters and it is the
perfect book for a rainy day.

We are making plans for our family reunion at Thanksgiving.
It will be here because Bobby can come more easily. Sara
and her family are going to Louisiana but that will be the
only absence. Sara's mother-in-law is getting remarried
and that is such a blessing. Anita is a good person and
has been so used by her children that it is nice to know
that she will have a life of her own and someone to care
for her.

When the cooking was done, I took lunch to Ashley and
Bobby. Adrienne got another 7,500 scholarship for
women in engineering and it is applicable to dorm rent.
I think this about does it for college expenses which
is a great relief.

It's not yet cold enough here for a fire but curing up with a good book sounds good.

I am surprised that it is not cold enough for a fire in your neck of the
woods. We use ours for ambience more than for heat.

I was going to say your Thanksgiving reunion sounds like fun, and I mean that, but also a lot of work, so I hope you get folks to bring a dish. I always enjoy preparing the meal, and marvel at how quickly it's done with, but then there is the visiting. And the second meal later that is more of a snack.

Everyone brings their specialty dish and this year they are bringing
Bobby's favorites. Earthquake Cake, Apple pies and cornbread salad. I
will do the turkey and ham and my sister will do turkey and dressing.

That young'n is doing great but it's a long road... I've fired up the insert a few times on the coldest nights but that was mainly to burn off debris from cutting and splitting logs. I used to burn it on a pile outdoors, but it's too much work and too expensive to waste these day. You apparently have a more positive attitude toward family reunions than I have. I'll be more than satisfied going to the community dinner. Haven't had t travel since my ma died in '94 and that fine with me.

There is some primitive satisfaction in watching a fire. It brings
contentment to know that you are safe and warm inside your home. We love
family reunions and being surrounded by the tiniest great great nieces
and nephews. The star is Penelope who is a real live wire and Sara's
children who are my great grandchildren.
