Recuperating

We had a lovely family day, marred by the fact that the
guest of honor, Bobby, was unable to come. He made the
effort to show up for a few minutes but had to go back
home and go to bed.

Do you remember the blogger, eighties and hanging in there?
That is how I feel today. Yesterday's weather was freezing
rain and we had a 12 hour power out. We got the generator
going and were comfortable. We are using the fireplace
more this year because of luxurious feel of wood heat.
Unfortunately it is very messy but worth the clean up
on gloomy days.

I still have to call about the branches that broke off
the sweet gum tree. We need them removed. I think that
ice and freezing rain is the worst of winter's tricks.

Watch out for the freeze coating everything, like the front steps. We get that ice coating frequently, and it's treacherous.

I hate these ice storms. They are so destructive but I am careful
and try to stay in when bad weather occurs.

Ice does major damage around here too especially when it happens before all the leaves are off the trees. I had my gen wired when I upgraded the electric in the house when I bought it in 2002. Have to run it for 20 minutes every month and I hadn't used it for its intended purpose until this year. And I've used it twice. It is most definitely nice to have along with wood heat!

Yes, having a generator is the ultimate in terms of comfort. We have
had ours for five years and only had to use it this once. It was
heaven.

Thank goodness you have that generator. I saw a weather.com report today that your part of the country (the southern tier) is supposed to be colder than usual this winter, and the part I'm in will be warmer. We'll see how it goes.

Yes, we had solid ice on the ground and in the trees. I hate these
ice storms. It broke three limbs off the sweet gum tree.

So very sorry Bobby couldn't share the day with you. Give him our collective hug, and tell him we're in his corner.

I think this is the beginning of the end for Bobby. He is so weak
and dizzy. I am spending all the time I can with him.
