Countdown

I currently have tables all over the house getting ready
for Thanksgiving when a horde of28 hungry relatives will
descend. No, I am not doing all the cooking, my sister
will bring half the food and all the grown ups will
contribute a dish. This year they are concentrating on
Bobby's favorites like Earthquake Cake, corn bread salad,
and green bean casserole while I do the other half of the
holiday favorites like turkey and pies. It is supposed to
rain but I sure hope not so that the children can go
outside. It is a celebration of life and love and one
that I am happy to be a part of for children and extended
family.

I just realized that I am almost at another milestone.
When I think about taxes...property taxes and income
taxes..I realize I am getting close to my 87th birthday.
I never once thought I would reach this advanced age.
Being elderly has it's downside but this body of mine
seems to keep on chugging away, albeit a little slower.

I remember one of your posts many years ago when you wrote about how now that you were 80, you were going to do things you'd always wanted to, something like making shop people treat you better.

From reading your posts, no one would ever guess your age.

As long as I remain a blonde via the bottle, I don't let myself feel
old!

I hope I am made of good stuff that lasts, too. So far I have been stopping myself from complaining about aging by thinking of my mother. My hair falling out? Big deal, at this age my mom didn't have any due to chemo. My knees ache? So what, I'm not sick. Next year I will be the same age my mom died at.

It is a sobering thought to know that your Mom died at your age. My
mother died at 78 but my maternal grandmother was 92 and lived independently until she was 91, when she gathered up her cats and
informed her daughters she was going to find Grandad who had passed away 25 years ago.

I have always thought I would live a long life because my mom was 92 when she died and only because she didn't take her insulin (it's an old country thing - if you feel okay, you don't need medication) and she was mentally sharp to the end. Also, she didn't do exercises as I do, so her genes were remarkable. But I have slowed down and I am always researching supplements to help with things like arthritis pain in my hands, and my troublesome back. I do everything anyway, just slower.

Your Mom was a remarkable woman to have remained mentally acute until
the age of 92. My three lifetime friends have all succumbed to some
form of dementia. You and I just seem to keep on keeping on. We don't
give up easily.
