Puzzled

I have parked for 6 years at the middle school in the same
spot. Those of
us picking up children line two sides of the
drive, leaving space for cars to go through.

Yesterday afternoon, I was verbally attacked by a black
woman for parking there in a rude and hateful manner. I
told her to cool it and drive on through as there was plenty of space. I was so disconcerted that I got out of
my car and walked back to chat with the woman parked behind
me. At that time, a black man told me this woman was out
of order and horribly rude and I did right not to move my
car. I just could not believe anyone would want to start
trouble with me. Am I that naive? Was the woman drunk?
on drugs? Did she resent my appearance? Ted says I look
a little Hollywood with blonde hair and sunglasses. Was
that irritating?

I think it reveals how much anger there is in our country. If you are unhappy and resentful then you
must have someone to blame and to vent your anger
on for what you perceive as being a fault. It is
at the bottom of road rage and mass shootings.

This was upsetting because I am used to being treated
well and I never rage at anyone.

Even though we try to shrug them off, irrational things like that niggle in the back of our minds because it seems so unfair. Let's hope she was somebody's cranky auntie and won't back.

This woman doesn't seem quite rational. There's no way to predict when someone decides to direct random anger at you. Glad she left without doing anything else.

It could have gotten ugly but I think the nice man would have helped.
I can't see losing it over something so trivial.

Dang. That's crazy! I'm glad nothing escalated from there...

She was so angry that I was surprised that she left without further
trouble.

No telling what was wrong with her. Every now and then that sort of thing happens. I had an incident at a yardsale where everything was free--they were selling the house and didn't want to be bothered, so just take the stuff. Details aren't important, but instead of arguing with a fellow geezer I just walked on in amazement and left behind an old bathroom scale that I would have used outdoors to weight propane tanks. Can't say it didn't bother me since I still remember it, but I did kind of let it go.

I think unjustified hostility bothers you but all you can do is let it
go. There is no need to bother fussing and letting arguments accelerate.

I abhor this strategy. Hopefully it will not be successful.

People who have troubles in their lives may lash out at others because they can't solve them and need a scapegoat. This has always been a factor in what divides us. Republican strategies tap into this resentment and encourage them to buy into their victimhood and direct it at Democrats. Of course, that tail is now wagging the dog (Trump). They have done it to themselves.

I goofed, see above.
