A Project That Makes Me Happy

I have to have a creative project going on to make me happy.
We are tackling the light box in the kitchen, tearing it out
and getting a coffered look with several pieces of crown
molding and then affixing metal ceiling tiles to the ceiling.
Instead of the nasty lights, I will hang a chandelier. My
brother-in-law is doing the work. I am going for an old
world look. While he is here, I want him to hang a ceiling
fan in our bedroom and put in pull down stairs to the attic
which is floored and lighted but too scary to get into.

We went shopping yesterday and found almost everything that
we needed. I am really pleased with the ceiling tiles because
they are shaded and have an antique look.

We had a light dusting of snow last night. I am a little
like one of those hibernating animals because I don't like
going out in the cold. Unfortunately, we both have Dr. and
dental appointments next week. The kids start back to school
Tuesday.

I'm no longer that ambitious, so I'll settle for an online photography course beginning on 12 January. But keep talking about work, maybe I'll get motivated to paint (at least).

My brother in law works slowly and deliberately so that is a problem for
me but he is a good carpenter. My part of the task is painting all that
stuff.

When he's done with your stuff, send your b.i.l. to us. We need a loft ladder that is pull down. We have a permanent long ladder sticking into the crawl space, but it is in the way and I'd like to get rid of it.
We could use a kitchen re-do -- pull out the false ceiling, re=do the cabinets. I'd like a pot-pan rack that hangs from the ceiling. Ed is against it. Everything costs too much.

My ambition is limitless but Ed is right. Building materials are so high
that it takes your breath away

I like the look of old vintage "cake-on-the-ceiling" light fixtures, BUT they can be very hard to open to replace the light bulbs. I cannot open the one in my kitchen at all so added a floor lamp. Chandeliers make it easier.

By the way, I was looking at earthquake listings last night and you have them in OK all the time! You mentioned the one the other day. Probably all due to pumping/mining/fracking?

Oil is king in Oklahoma so we will continue to have earthquakes. I think it
is the fracking and the horizontal drilling. Heretofore, it was impossible
to get the oil underneath the Anadarko basin but with these procedures
they can. Until they started this, the earth was quiet. Those old light
fixtures are a pain to change light bulbs in teetering on a ladder.

Having that extra storage that you can get to without a ladder will be worth the trouble of installing those stairs.

I tried to buy one at Home Depot and they said they didn't sell them.
I couldn't imagine that. I guess I will scout around for one...they should
be available.
