Late Night TV

I don't watch much tv. I read instead but am currently
out of good books and need to go to the library today for
a new supply.

Last night was one of those sleepless nights that come
along. With nothing to read, I opted for tv. This is
what I got for our outrageous charge that I can do nothing
about because Ted loves the sports channels and the
automobile channels.

The Smithsonian channel: A fake reality tv show where
bearded mountain men were pretending to forage for food
for an autumn fest. I wondered why they didn't just have
the camera men bring them groceries. Instead they floundered around killing birds and fish and boiling plants, stones and bark for soup and drying berries for
a sweet.

The movie channels were wretched. I have always loved
old movies but it didn't take long for me to weary of
Lolita on TCM.

Fortunately, I got sleepy and tired of changing channels
and Rex and I went back to bed. I think brain rot would
soon set in if tv was my only entertainment. Perhaps
it was the time period that was at fault. Midnight
isn't exactly prime time.

I can't watch TV on sleepless nights. It would either wake me up even more or I'd nod off in my recliner and wake up with a kink in my neck. I prefer to knit. I can tell when it's time to go back to bed when I start making mistakes.

When my eyes start to droop, I know I can sleep. Hot chocolate helps
too.

Netflix, Youtube, Amazon, have a lot of choices and you can choose a TV series you missed when it was on and watch all episodes. We saw the entire series of Agatha Christie's Poirot series. It was great. He dies in the last episode. I wasn't expecting that. There are still some good programs on a few times a week that I like to watch: Madame Secretary, The Good Wife, the original NCIS (even though I miss the Ziva David character a lot), and, of course, late night with Stephen Colbert, and once a week, Bill Maher, and there's always MSNBC for skewed political news, but it's skewed in my direction so I don't vomit.

I should have gotten on Amazon or netflix. It seems to me that our
high bill should give us better entertainment for the money. If we
didn't have packaging we could select what we want.

Sometimes I mix up books and movies -- I can't remember when it was a movie or I'm visualizing the book so clearly it just seemed like one. And the black-and-white movies, sometimes I think they were in color because I can describe the colors of the clothing. That happened with Young Frankenstein.

The movies that are most vivid to me are the BBC ones and the oldies
with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor. I am a sucker for the Tudors.

There is nothing worse than looooong boring nights in the hospital when one can't sleep. I'd leave the TV on on and except for a program about what would happen to the earth if humans disappeared for some reason (which was OK) everything else only made the nights more unbearable. I was ready to dump the TV when we switched Internet providers but Donna uses it as sort of a nightlight to keep her company while she knits. I prefer real people on youtube and computer stuff myself.

I loathe reality shows because they aren't real, Especially ones that
pretend to be surviving in the wilderness and I am disappointed that
animal Planet usually has reptiles when I want to watch it and the Smithsonian is so disappointing.

Better than infomercials though maybe? Ha
We have a ton DVR'ed so we don't have to rely on late night TV.

I have a friend who regularly watches infomercials and frequently buys
the stuff.

I agree...regular tv is pretty lame. I have been enjoying Netflix for years and I highly recommend it. You can always find somethng good to watch anytime of the day or night. It will however, never take the place of a good book

I like netflix but didn't think about turning on the computer to
watch movies.
