Ho Hum

We had a rainy Sunday with nothing to do but curl up with
a great novel by Jodie Picoult. She is fast becoming a
favorite of mine because her stories are unlpredictable
and always fascinating.

The rain could not have come at a better time. The
ground was parched and thirsty. It literally drank in
the moisture. I need to pull up some flowers and transplant some ajuga in the vacant spots and discard the
tomato vines. We didn't get over 20 tomatoes this year
and it wasn't worth the effort.

Surprisingly the herbs have flourished. I will dry some
for use this winter and make pesto with my astonishing
basil crop. It and the parsley have taken over the herb
garden. I am looking forward to using some of the sage
in stuffing this winter.

Fresh herbs are the best. Glad you got super basil!

I wish you were closer so that I could share.

The herb garden sounds very nice. I am imagining you drying them by hanging them in bunches, since the air's been dry. Here I might have to use a toaster oven or dehydrator.

I hang them in the garage. It is certainly dry enough here and the
bugs are out in full force. Especially the noseeums.

Never know which crop will do best in any year. This year for us were the extra large cherry tomatoes. I will be posting a pic of my jumbo pumpkin as soon as it's completely orange. It's not the largest pumpkin ever grown but it's by far my largest.

I can't wait to see the pumpkin. It brings back memories of canning
pumpkin with my mother and sister. We had a cat who loved to eat it
and she tickled us to death feasting on pumpkin.

Wish I had a green thumb. I view your efforts with awe. I love basil. My mother grew herbs in pots on the sill in our Chicago living room. Obviously I inherited none of her abilities.

I wish I could share the bounty of my herb crop with you. I love the
smell of basil and rosemary.

How lovely you have fresh herbs!!!! My tomatoes didn't grow this year at all.

John had good tomatoes but the rest of us were left with a lot of wasted
effort. My roses did not do well either. I have a lot of work to do
before winter sets in.
