All Hallows Eve

Halloween is my favorite holiday and I usually don a
Witch's costume complete with green makeup. However, I
was so tired yesterday that I just passed out candy.

My grandchildren probably had the worst costumes because
they made no effort at all but some of the best ones
showed up at the door. My favorite was Red Riding Hood.
She looked like an illustration from a children's book of
long ago. The next best was a little Ninja turtle who had
a wonderful face mask. There were ghosts, several monkeys,
monsters, hobos, brides and witches. The little ones felt
compelled to explain who they were, although it was obvious.
Ashley went with her friend, McKenzie who went as Katie Perry
and looked darling in her costume and blue hair.

Rex greeted all the little goblins with a wagging tail and a
big doggy smile. He adores little ones. I offered to loan
my witch's costume and a milkmaid one to the girls but for
some reason Adrienne went as a geek and Ashley thought she
looked like someone from the Hunger Games. Ted and I were
disappointed that they didn't make more of an effort. But
then, we haven't lost all our child like qualities.

Bummer that you were too tired to wear your normal attire for Halloween! But after reading your last post it makes sense. We didn't have any trick or treaters at our house, but our street is gravel so it isn't safe to walk on... bummer.

My daughter tried on several costumes that didn't look like a costume at all. She'd ask, "do I look like a vampire?" Well, not really, I'd say. I guess vampires a la Stephanie Meyers are vastly different from Bram Stoker's vampires.

Rex sounds like such a wonderful doggie! As for us, in the nine years that we've lived here, not one single trick-or-treater. Even in our little town of 350 persons, with lots of little kids, we're off the beaten path.

We enjoy them but not quite as much as Rex does. We never had little goblins
when we lived on the farm and we missed them.

We have hordes of kids and I keep the porch light on until time for the
little ones to go to bed. I sent candy to Adrienne's party because I
didn't want them to come late for their treats. Yesterday was a bad day
otherwise, with Bobby's surgery. Evidently it went well. He is coming
home today.

let us know how Bobby is doing.

The bad news is we only had 17 trick or treaters come to our door and the bad news is we have to polish off all the bowls of candy. There is no good news.
I didn't think to dress up for my knitting group yesterday but two did. One was dressed in 1912 fashion with darkened eyes, white face and cobwebs on her hat. Another wore a short, black skirt with black tights that had leg bones printed on them.

I am stuck with a lot of tootsie rolls which has Rex hovering over the
candy bowl. I daresay they will soon disappear.

I do not have to dress.I am dress all of the time
we have the same problems like Teal about the dark road etc.
I would love to have seen the little ones dressed up

They were so cute and they went so all out this year. It was fun.

We don't get any "guests" either. They hit the local business and houses in town. Too much walking along the highway for only a few houses. Donna wouldn't go for buying candy to pass out... she learned after a few years that I only want to buy it for the "leftovers" the next day.

Donna is a strict woman. She knows your weakness.

What is wrong with us? I did not dress up either... or pass out candy last night. I could not handle the dogs carrying on every time someone rang the door bell so I kept the front light off.

Rex doesn't bark, he just stands in the front door and grins. The smaller
the child, the more he loves them. He enjoys Halloween more than we do.

I didn't dress up either -- too disheartened this year. If we are to get kids in our cul de sac, we have to alert the "handlers" who work the bottom end of the island. They would then direct people up our way -- people don't come naturally because there is a dark road between us and them. Last year, our neighbors across the street decorated elaborately with a shipwreck and a sunken treasure so we got more action. This year, nothing. No one at all rang our bell. Of course, we also turned our lights off. Just not feeling festive at all.

I goofed. Your reply is at the top. Hope you are feeling more energetic
soon.
