I have never wanted a big country kitchen because I like
cooking alone. Mine is a small corridor kitchen with white
cabinets, black granite counter tops and black appliances
and a black and white checkerboard floor. It has the French
Provincial look that I love. Colorful roosters are everywhere.
Cooking for me is an alternative to boredom. I love the
process. It allows me to be creative and to please my
family at the same time. There is something about the
smell of bread baking that just shouts home. It is the
way I express my love, with soup bubbling on the stove
and bread in the oven.
Sara desperately wants to be a good cook. I have a family
cookbook that she is going to get the very next time I see
her. "Grandma, I want to cook like you" is music to my ears.
Mrs. Troutbend and Celeste are better cooks than I am but I
have picked up pointers from them. Sadly, Alzheimer's has
put a stop to Celeste's efforts in the kitchen.
Do you suppose the other grand daughters will want to cook?
There is a little magic in apple pie and sorcery in a good
meal.
