It has been cold since Sunday and it is so dry. I need to
water but I have my faucets all wrapped and hate to do it
all over again. I shudder to think about the fact that if
we don't get some rain, food will be out of sight. We had
hoped for some moisture Sunday but just got the cold instead.
Since Ted and I raised cattle for so long, I can't help but
be concerned about the cattle. They have to be sold because
there isn't feed or water for them. I love cows because they
are sweet and they love their babies so much and still care
about them after they are grown up. We had a cow named
Buttercup who was very wise and she kept all her daughters
and their babies near her. When one daughter, Smurfette,
rejected her baby Buttercup stayed with her and somehow
made her understand that she had to nurse it. Animals
have a store of wisdom that we will never understand. I
miss their calming presence.
I really think we have become alienated from nature and
that has contributed to the violence in today's
society and the lack of compassion we see in the newspapers
every day.
