On Being Cold

This winter has been so uncomfortable and is hanging on so
long that I am vexed with Mother Nature. She has been a
real bitch and even though my tomato plants were covered, they
are frozen. My little green pepper plants survived and so
did the flowers that I covered up. We should not be having
hard freezes in April.

This has been a busy week and I am exhausted. On a happy
note, Ted's brother, David, cleaned out the garage for us.
He has been so helpful to us and I am still in love with the
kitchen remodel that he did for us. He is a really great
brother in law to have. Ted has five brothers but we seldom
see the others.

Ted's dementia is worsening in spite of the drugs. It seems
to have happened all at once. He gets very depressed because
he knows that he is losing it. I cannot help but wonder if
there is an environmental cause because of the increase in
this disease.

Did you ever set up that tool caddy that we bought at Aldi's? We really like ours.

Sorry to hear about Ted. That has to be distressing for both of you.I think even the birds know that it is still winter up north. I saw white pelicans this past week and they are usually all gone by the end of March.

Dottie, I am so glad to see you back. It is hard to give up all the things
Ted can no longer do. He had a long session with our primary care Dr.
and will be able to get some home health care soon.

I'm so sorry about Ted. My maternal grandmother, her son (my uncle), my paternal grandfather and his daughter all suffered from Alzheimer's. I fervently hope I didn't inherit those genes.

All Ted's relatives dread this. His mother had it and lived on in a nursing
home for seven years. She was hallucinating before we knew she had it because she covered it up so well. She must have been so frightened.

This is a hard row to hoe. I would certainly get coconut oil. Doing things to help ourselves is good psychologically, even if firm results aren't there yet.

I am all for any innovation that might help. It sure couldn't hurt. Our
Dr. did a CT scan and said his frontal lobe is shrinking more than is normal,
plus he has had a stroke.

It's been said that if we live long enough all but very few of us would experience some sort of dementia. Perhaps the increase in numbers is due to longevity. People used to live for a few years after retirement and that was that, but that is no longer the case.
Too bad about your tomato. I suppose I should be grateful that my garlic crop and everything else that starts growing on its own survived the last two mornings. Yesterday we had snow, which is actually an insulator, but that melted in yesterday's sunny 36 and this morning it was 19. But hopefully the worst is over and you still have time to replant.

Nineteen is pretty cold all right. I am huddled up in a sweater right now.
It is damp and that always makes it colder and makes us get stiffer.

So sorry to hear Ted is losing ground -- it is the most devastating to watch. Try the coconut oil -- it can't hurt. There is no doubt our air is not what it was -- there could be pollutants contributing to our problems. We're living in the last best time. I fear for those who will have to deal with climate unsolved because the politicians don't want to hear about it.

I have often thought that this is the last best time. People are not able
to get out of poverty the way we could. Groceries are astronomical. I am
always in a state of shock when I leave the grocery store. The climate is
changing and the powers that be won't admit it.

I went to a health Food store recently and the lady behind the counter started telling me all about her mom who was losing her memory quite quickly. She (daughter) started putting coconut oil in everything and claims that her mom got her memory back within a month. Take it for what it's worth, but seems like an odd claim to make up.

I am going to try this. I will let everyone know if it works. Do you know
what sex the baby will be? I think it is so great to be able to find this
out in advance. I had to guess until the babies were here.
