Care for Gift Suggestions?

My friend, Avis, who is in captivity in a nursing home has
given me her wish list which I was able to mail today. thought you might have someone with similar needs.

l. Stamps

2. note cards
\
3. stationary

4. pen

5. bra (discount if your friend is a man)

In addition, since Avis is a diabetic, I included Macadamia nuts because they have few if any carbs and a package of dried
fruit. The fruit may be a no-no but a little illicit fun
seems to be called for in this situation.

I am apalled that her children are so unresponsive to her
very few requests for such little things. We don't realize
how helpless a person can be in such a situation. Imagine if one were trapped and couldn't go out to get one single
thing for oneself.

What a sweet and loving friend you are. I'm sure she appreciates you. When my time comes, I can't see anyone "watching over me". Just shoot me. (Remember the movie, "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?"?)

That sounds horrible. Doesn't her home have any buses that run? Any retirement home I ever worked at did... to grocery stores, malls, etc. just for outings. I wish the best for her.

Does she have a cell phone? Reading glasses (that you buy without a prescription)? ... books are always good. The best gift of all, of course, is going to see her.

Thanks for your suggestions. She has a phone in her room and can no longer
see well enough to read which is a tragedy since she has always been a reader. It is a curse to live too long when your health goes.

The scariest thing about getting old is the thought of being stuck in an institution without someone on the outside to obtain the little essentials of daily life.

Just think how many people don't have anyone to see after them. It is a
pitiful situation.

She has been my friend for 53 years so she has the love and knows she can
count on me.

Good ideas! If I may add one note about the pen, if the person is arthritic, I recommend pens with fat pen barrels so they can be handled and used easily. Also, long distance calling cards are nice gifts, too.

What good ideas! I never thought about calling cards.
