Bitter Authors

I brought home a lot of books from the library and they have
been such losers. One was South of Ressurection by Jonis
Agee. The writing was good but the characters were so hopeless and had so little to live for that I skipped to the
end rather than follow them through their travails. One book
of short stories was called Wake and it was depressing. I
hate characters who have no gumption or get up and go. These
books won all kinds of awards. I don't know when an absorbing
story got to be old fashioned. I still have some more in my
book bag, the law of averages should mean one good one.

I, too, have been organizing and trying to get a lot of housework done. I cleaned some of the grout in the bathroom
with white vinegar, (you have to let it set and then scrub a
little but it works. Now I need to do the shower.

Bobby's surgery is Monday. He wants me to keep the girls
since it falls on Martin Luther King day and they are out of
school and he doesn't want Ellie to stay at the hospital
all day and no one to stay at night. I may go and stay at
night anyway because I think hospitals make a lot of mistakes.
When I had knee surgery they were prepping the right one and
I asked why they were doing that and they said the Dr had
told them they would be doing the right one. If I hadn't
raised hell I would have had a heck of a mal practice suit.
However the republicans have put a cap on medical mal practice in Oklahoma. I think it is 300,000. which wouldn't
be squat if you couldn't work again. Grr!

It must be the time of year; wanting to clean up & clean out, not being able to find a book that can hold your attention for more that 5-8 pages! I keep searching for just the right one!
Trusting that the surgery on your loved one will be a total success

I was ready to try vinegar on the grout between the stones inside both entryways until we got a hand-held steamer for Christmas. I figured I'd try that first. I had tried stripper and Awsome, and neither had worked well. I was amazed a what a few seconds of steam could do! It's not spotless, but it removed years of dirt. I watched youtubes about steam and it was impressive. The thing really does work that well!

I have a steam mop and love it. It doesn't do as well as a hand held steamer
because you get tired of staying in one spot. My entry looks dirty and I
have tried everything on it except white vingar and that is next.

I always feel guilty about not finishing a bad book but if I try to read it to the end I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I know, I always feel like I have to skip to the end to see if the poor
bumbling creatures finally made it.

Haven't been reading at all -- unless you count the newspaper. Ed's super busy with his work now and that means I don't get to the library because he has the car.

Maybe you will see a garage sale with a lot of paperbacks. There are two
things I buy at garage sales, afghans and paperbacks. I am mystified by
a beautiful afghan, hand knit or crocheted being priced at five dollars. I
got my daughter an absolutely gorgeous white one for five dollars and I keep
the family supplied. With paper backs, I just put them up until I hit a
dry spell at the library.

Wwweeelllllll I have a doctor friend who said lawsuits are causing all the price increases - I am not sure where I fall on that. I totally see your point but also see the doctors side. They are human after all. We all make mistakes, some more serious than others.
Sorry about your book situation. I recently read "Bones Would Rain from the Sky" by Suzanne Clothier - loved it! Also just a few minutes ago I finished "The Art of Racing in the Rain". Another good one. They are both dog related (and strangely both have rain in the title)!

I know doctors have high malpractice suits to pay but in Oklahoma where most
things are cheap, the average cost of a doctor visit is l25.00 and you might
see him for 5 to 7 minutes. I believe they can afford to pay if they make
a mistake that costs a life or a crippling injury. The inujured party probably has to pay one third of his settlement to the attorney who
represented him.

pay a lawyer one third of the settlement.

My reading list is trending toward history at the moment, but I have some novels I hope to get to. One is "Eat, Pray, Love." I know, I know, I'm behind. Have you read that one?

Prayer candles are and will continue to burn brightly for Bobby, especially on Monday.

Thank you Marta. Yes, I read Eat,Pray Love. It was good but I haven't seen the movie. I think it would be hard to translate to the screen.
