Autumn Leaves

We have such nice autumn days in Oklahoma. It has only been
below freezing for a couple of nights. It lulls a person into
thinking that winter will never come. It was 76 yesterday.

My yard is covered with leaves. I raked up a few yesterday
but have been too busy to really attack the yard. None of
them come from my tree. I always love to walk in the woods
and feel the crunchiness of the leaves under my feet. This
all too brief season of the year is my favorite and I love
to spend time in the country, taking Rex and letting him
run to his hearts content.

We always have our family reunions in the fall. This year,we had to delay it until Thanksgiving because of various ailments but the best time is around the first of October. October
is lovely with pumpkins and Halloween and golden days.

I think the October of ones life would be those years between
55 and 65. That is the very best time to be alive. Relish
that decade and don't put off anything while you are still
young and healthy.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I know exactly what you mean about we should enjoy the October of our lives while we can because many times I'll look back five or ten years and realize I didn't know how good I had it at that time.

It is a wonderful decade. The fire of youth has banked and you are
settled enough to enjoy life to the full.

Mid-October. That only leaves me two "months". Doesn't sound good.

I am sure that you and Donna live life to the full. I hope she is healed
soon.

Nothing quite like the aroma of fall leaves in the crisp air. Aaaahhhh. Have a great Thanksgiving, Jeri.

It is a shame we can't burn the leaves anymore. I loved that smell.
Have a great holiday.

Fall has always been my favorite season, particularly when I lived in the north. Although it can get cold in Florida, the smell of the air is just not the same. Walking in northern woods in October and November is the best. I hope your family reunion is wonderful.

Thank you Teal. I know you will be doing turkey for Ed so he can have his
snacks. You have to have a little crisp of cold air to fully appreciate
autumn.

I have been watching it. I never miss anything by Ken Burns. The Dust Bowl years must have been awful.I have nothing but respect for the people they called "Okies"and can't imagine the hardships they endured.

I wrote my memories of the dust bowl years for my children and especially
for Adrienne because she could hardly believe I remembered them. It was a
horrific time. I was seven and had to miss school and take care of my two
year old sister while my parents picked cotton in Arizona for money to get
back home. They called jack rabbits Hoover chicken and believe me we were
glad to get them.

Did you watch the Ken Burns' Dust Bowl episodes the past two nights? I thought of you.
