Art

Art is a great love of mine and I have more pictures than
I can hang. Most of what I have painted is in the utility
room so that should give you an idea of how I rate my art.
I do decent flower paintings in copper pots and have done
some decent portraits ala Lautrec style. Ted is a much better
painter and carver than I am. He has done some very good
Native American painting and carving. We both putter with
pottery and jewelry making. We enjoy Dottie and Jondude's
paintings.

We are both losing our fine motor skills due to arthritis and Ted's stroke.

As I sit here, I am looking at Kelly Haney's print of
his Great Plains Cowboy. I am telling you that I would
run away with that man in a minute. Talk about Sexy! There have been a lot of prints made from it and this is
my favorite even though I own an original. He is not that
well known outside of Oklahoma for his sculpture and
paintings. His huge sculpture of the Guardian adorns the
dome on our state capitol building. Kelly, himself looks
to be a full blood Seminole Indian. He is very sharp and
has made a good living with his art. All of the Haney family are artists and flute makers. I have a small sculpture by his brother, Bill Haney, now deceased. I treasure it.

Note to Dottie and Jondude. Kelly and Bill Haney often
have traded their work for furniture and other items. Have
you tried the barter system. It certainly has worked for
them.

No, it is his Great Plains Cowboy that I would like to run away with. I
don't know who he used for a model. But mind you no native American
life style.

Just did a Google art tour of his work — what fun! Reminds me of the western art exhibit I saw at the University of Oklahoma in Norman when I was there for a conference in the mid-1970s. Extraordinary!

I am glad you enjoyed it. I love Native American art and I adore going
to Santa Fe to get to see even more. I love the jewelry too.

I Googled Enoch etc. and came up with one photo of him in what appears to be his mid to late 50s. He is a little heavier than what I imagined his earlier image to be. Judging by this photo, I don't think you would want to run away with him.

I once traded a painting for a case of great wine. I think I traded one to a girlfriend for something, but I already forgot what it was for. LOL

You just have to find an art lover. Write to Virginias Furniture Store, Shawnee, Ok. She has furnished (bartered) most of Kelly Haney's paintings.

Okay, I have to Google Kelly Haney's cowboy and maybe I will see what you are talking about. Now it's the guy in the painting you find sexy, right? Will get back to you on that.

I think you may have another member of the Haney family. It is Enoch
Kelly Haney and the title of the painting is "Great Plains Cowboy". They
are all artists but Enoch Kelly Haney is best known. I just looked at him
in his Stetson with a magnificent profile and his hair flying about in the
snow. Yep, I would leave with him in a minute if I could have air
conditioning and heat and not live in a teepe.
