The Animal Kingdom

One of my neighbors has three dogs, two corgis and one I don't recognize. Another one has 3 minature Dobermans and a little rat terrier. They are obnoxious little souls, always yipping. Everytime I walk to the Doberman's mama to get fresh eggs Rex goes with me. He mutters and growls all the way. He now weighs 103 lbs but he lets the little female Corgi chase him out of her yard. He resents her bitterly. Until they moved in, he considered their yard part of his territory. Celeste always says, "If I had wanted a dog, I would get a real one . Not something that looks like a rat." She is very attached to Rex and always brings him a treat.

It is kind of humiliating to have this gentle giant who won't stand up for himself. Kind of like having a little boy who is a wuss. China rules him with an iron hand, fortunately he has never found out that she has no claws. A raised paw is all it takes to make him go away. She tolerates him but fusses when he licks her.

We took him to get his shots last week in preparation for boarding. I was a little anxious because I thought he might get away from us. This Vet is on a busy intersection.
Fortunately he was a good boy. Our old dog is nearly blind and nearly deaf but he seems to enjoy life. We really don't want to have to have him put to sleep. They get old
too fast.

My two little shi tsus are not very sociable and don't have the sense to not bark and growl at dogs three times their size. Their aggressiveness embarrasses me sometimes!

I am sure you know it Jeri, but a dog, no matter what size, will win
on their own turf. It's a matter of teritory.
Latter, gater.

Dear Jeri, Rex isn't a wus. He knows he doesn't have his youthful abilities at the ready and may not be able to protect himself. My cat Sniffy, once a terror, learned not to get himself into situations once he could no longer leap and run like a young kitty. I'm still missing that gentle soul.

they do get old too fast for sure! I am not a fan of that...
Sounds like Rex is doing just fine..
