An Alternative News Source

I have moaned and groaned about our horrible newspaper
that should be titled The Daily Republican. It is so biased
and so slanted. It has told outright lies about expanded medicaid and the Affordable Health Care Act.

The Observer tells the truth even when it reflects badly on
Democrats and it exposes many of the things that this Republican dominated state government is trying to do. For
instance, they want judges elected by the people which is
a profound mistake and will result in a politically controlled judiciary. It would be a kangaroo court all over
again.

I can just imagine what Steve would have to say about this.
I miss his blogs. I wonder where he has gone.

Our merit system for state employees is set aside every time
someone with political influence wants to put an employee
in the Department of Corrections or other state entities. I
am using the D.O.T. as an example and since my son once
worked there, I know it was run by a state senator who is
mercifully dead now. He put underqualified political cronies in there all the time. My SIL encountered the same
thing in the Health Department.

The local paper here has an editorial page with columns by people like Bill O'Reilly, enough to skip over to the comic page. Which I do. Every morning.

It is an exercise in the gnashing of teeth to read the editorials.

In my opinions that are being published more often by the Fort Myers News-Press, I often choose topics that have been mischaracterized in the news, or by other readers in their own opinions and dissect the rationale that produced them. Ed dislikes the local paper because it is so parochial, but I think it is trying to be balanced, although it often ignores my pieces criticizing Governor Rick Scott, our own personal unindicted felon (his former buddies in the hospital corporation he headed are now serving time for Medicare fraud). My latest opinion is almost ready to send to my contact -- and it is a response to conservative columnist Cal Thomas, who conducted a mini straw-poll that give the right-wing all the best of things. I'll post it when it's ready.

Woe is us, as Mammy Yokum used to say!

It's refreshing to find a news source you feel is more trustworthy than the usual. I feel like we are manipulated horribly by the news media.

Yes, I resent slanted stories. We have lost so much money and so many
people have been thrown under the bus because our Governor is catering to
the tea party.

Seems like term limits all around would be a good start. Let it be "service" as it used to be.

How true. Politically elected sheriffs are bad enough. Corruption is
everywhere.
