Yesterday we had four ricks of wood coming at an agreed upon price that was to be delivered and stacked. At four o'clock, I got a call attempting to raise the price but having learned how to cope with this in the past, I told them that I only had $238.00 and if this wasn't enough we would have to forget it. They agreed that it was enough and they would be here later this evening.
At seven o'clock they came driving up in a truck proclaiming that Jesus was their co-pilot and wouldn't it be alright if they just dumped out the wood. I told them no and sent Ted out to deal with them whereupon they offered to pray for us. Ted ended up helping them stack it and participating in their good ol' boy banter.
After a while, I went out and stood on the deck and one of them asked me, "Which do you like best, gospel or Hank Williams?" I chose Hank and he whipped off his hat and sang, 'Your Cheatin Heart" and "I saw the Light". It wasn't half bad. He said, "You know I just sing no matter where I be but my wife is timid and it kinda gets to her".
"I really like to start singing at K Mart and Walmart but she doesn't like it when I draw a crowd." Then he confided that he spent l0 years in Texas where he was "ruint" but now he was back to his roots and the Lord.
I am still wondering what he meant by being "ruint" and I asked Ted. Ted verified my feeling that it was probably booze. I am thinking if he was this exuberant sober what a
mess he would be if he were intoxicated.
