This happened the other day on a downtown street in Pittsburgh. A sinkhole opened up suddenly in the street. Luckily, only the driver and one passenger were on it at the time.
The street will be closed for months while they repair it.

I give it a wow, and am grateful I was not sitting in the back of that bus. Hope you made it across town safely.
City streets have so much stuff under them - water and sewer pipes, electrical lines, even subways - I always picture them as hollow shells and wonder that they don't cave in more often.
This picture was a big deal on Nightly News. The video of the woman awake for brain surgery was also a big deal. Youtube is filled with this stuff. But if it gets a "wow" from the TV viewer it's a big deal. I think network news is clueless.
