Poor Bristol

On Tealstar's page the idea was tossed out to start an over/under bet on how long Bristol Palin's marriage(to-be) will last. It's tempting, really tempting. Especially considering that "marginally educated" groom and his Facebook assertion that he doesn't even want kids.

I know of another young woman's marriage that was bet on like that -- and it was already doomed. It happened to be a female blogger who talked too much about her personal life. She had a big audience, and some detractors who made fun of her. The bettors were correct, and in that case it took less than six months before the couple separated. She was a pretty harmless person, but it was clear that her own actions hurried her divorce along. Her husband couldn't have liked reading about the two of them online, their personal lives open to the world like that.

This case has a child on the way, a whole nation looking on, a grandmother in a presidential election, and all the indignities of the internet to broadcast their slip-ups. This won't be any sort of marriage, only an endurance test until the couple can think about how much the McCain-Palin campaign owes them for forcing them to rush into marriage at the ages of 17 and 18. Bristol and her dumb husband will be due some kind of settlement, in my opinion. Even if it's just free babysitting for life from granny Sarah!

Love may be a "strong and powerful thing" as Cindy asserts below, but it frequently has a halflife of about two years...

I was of the opinion that 'free love' deserved free contraception, but they don't tell that to the teenagers these days.

Hmm.. Looks like folks are getting used to having this subject discussed!

I wish them the best... I won't arm-chair quarterback about this, even though the odds are against them. Love is a strong and powerful thing.
