It's supposed to rain and snow sometime today, and then tomorrow go down to -12. Guess I'll finally be bothering to light the fireplace.

After getting some groceries, I'm going to try to get to see the ice maze at the park.

The pine beetles that are killing our trees (it's always something around here, isn't it?) would supposedly not survive if we had 7 to 10 days of -25 weather. I am trying to decide if it'd be worth it. Maybe I would if we had more tree death to deal with, but so far it hasn't been as bad as in other places.

Let the beetles beware. We can't do anything about the crazy weather, so if it kills off some of the undesirable insects, good. I wonder how stink bugs and Japanese beetles are affected by freezing.

It was supposed to get to ten degrees F. last night and we had to leave
our faucets dripping so the water wouldn't freeze. I can't imagine
22 degrees colder. The fireplace makes it feel cozier.

I have ice on the insides of most of my windows now. This house has 2 furnaces and the one in the front part of the house keeps kicking on. The front room has no ice.

I remember when I use to be a Security Patrolman and doing exterior rounds during the winter, one winter graveyard shift I was informed by the inside Patrolman that the outside temp w/ windchill was -48. My first thought was "WTH am I doing outside??"

It's been some years since I had to deal with sub zero temps -- once in NYC, it was 18 below. I thought my face would crack. So I am happy with the warmth down here, but constantly have to wat ch my step lest I step on someone's faith.

I feel meant to live in the north. Even on nice beaches I get irritated that there's too much wind, let alone sun.
