Here's one reason we still need incandescent light bulbs:
Because they're hot. I'm thawing out pipes to my one sink by replacing the light bulb in the basement near them. In years past, that light on was all it took to keep them from freezing.

Spent half the day yesterday being sick. Woke up with a massive headache starting at the base of my neck, wrapping both sides of my head. Sometimes these may happen from my neck problems and sleeping propped up too high (or sitting up in the recliner). Sometimes a morning neckache/headache will disappear when I stand up. Not this one, it led to hours of nausea. Other people can deal with a sick stomach better, but me, I'm shaking and panting like a dog.

Some of my headaches are terrible. When I was younger they had nothing to do with cervical disc stuff, just head pain. I've never had high blood pressure so they seem kind of like migraines -- but I don't get the usual symptoms migraine sufferers do. But if it's true that personality is part of migraines, I do fit the pattern people associate with them.

I figure I could reduce them with care about how I sleep, with meditation, exercise and so on. This would be a good thing to start this new year.

-- After wasting half the day being sick and going to sleep, when I woke up my internet was off. So I gave in and watched TV. No cable or Netflix; it's AppleTV for me and whatever shows are available on iTunes. A friend turned me on to House of Lies, and I also watched episodes of Torchwood. I will not recommend House of Lies to anyone because it's very adult & can be difficult to take. It's about a management consulting group for big corporations, and they make a living advising jerks and being jerks themselves. For instance, they tell a major bank how to float through the mortgage crisis, which the bank definitely helped cause. The bank manages its image long enough for the executives to collect their bonuses.

That must sound like recommending it, I guess. If the actors weren't good, like Don Cheadle, and the plots interesting, I'd have stopped watching after the first episode because I DON'T LIKE THESE PEOPLE. It's very sexual, but everyone treats sex like the most revolting of frat boys might. The young woman who is part of the team does too -- and you see the result when she goes on an online date with a nice guy: He is disgusted, and leaves her in the middle of dinner. (She doesn't care.)

Reminds me of the novel, The Other Boleyn Girl. I was warned that I wouldn't like any of the characters in that either, and I didn't.

About the light bulbs: what are we going to do when all the simple, low tech solutions to problems are gone? Heat tape?

Sometimes the premise of TV serials sounds repellant, but they are compelling because the writing and acting is good enough that despite all that, I can't stop watching.

Botox comes highly recommended for stopping headaches. I can't talk
our Sara into trying it for her migraines. Have you tried a memory foam
pillow? Aleve works better for me as a pain killer than even stronger
drugs. So sorry you are plagued with them.

I stop reading when I can't like the characters. Sorry about your headaches. Meditation will help. I'm an exercise nut, so I encourage that, too. (No, it isn't easy any more, but I don't like what happens when I stop -- rising weight, no energy.) When I started sleeping with my upper back elevated, my sciatica pain stopped instantly. Good luck with solving the headaches.
