The Contents of the Storage Units

My place is like a cargo section of a train station, boxes everywhere. So I have to concentrate on getting stuff out. Scrap metal is out by the curb, but no one has responded to the ad I put up about it; I just took several boxes and bags to Goodwill, and now a pile of books to the bookstore that buys books.

And when I come home, I need to attend to what some call Mount Shredmore, but I usually call Accounts Flammable. These are the piles of papers that either are for shred or the fireplace.

It's a shame to open a box of vintage hardback books and find that storage alone gets them dirty. I don't know how dirt forced its way into the tightly-stacked columns of boxes.

I don't know whether I wrote about this after the storage unit move or not, but Budget vehicle rentals is just terrible. I am still fighting a $50 fee from them for being a no-show. After reserving a truck one evening -- and getting a confirmation for it at the location I needed -- I drove there the next morning and they had no trucks at all, and scarcely any cars. It didn't even look like a working rental location. Apparently they confirm reservations whether they have the vehicle there or not. So then they try to move your reservation to another location -- which is completely unacceptable, since it may add lots of miles, at about a dollar a mile. Then they email you during the night -- and if you expected a phone call, you might not be checking your email, as I didn't. They moved my reservation to a location 40 miles or so away. I was told this, when I showed up at the first location.

I went to U-haul down the street instead. They do not reserve a vehicle to be rented unless it is confirmed there on the lot at the time.

I'm enjoying hearing about what was in the storage units.

Hold your horses for when I bore you with the computer bits: the SCSI card that has to be kept because it means I have a corresponding hard drive somewhere that it runs; boxes of cables like a pile of snakes; heavy boxes of Ikea metal hooks and table legs and unidentifiable parts; more boxes of invoices for domain name registrations of 20 years ago (actually these were interesting to me); boxes of dusty and slightly mildewy books; boxes of papers no one on earth needs...

Sounds like a nightmare. We too have a lot of stuff Ed is not dealing with and won't let me just get rid of it. Anyway, I have places I can take things to, like the cat shelter that always takes bedding, or the charity re-sale shop that will take clothes I o longer use. But just gathering it and taking it is a chore so I put it off.

I wish we had a resale shop for clothes nearby, but then I must remember I wear rotten clothes to begin with. I am attempting to sell a pile of men's clothes that are in perfect condition, but it doesn't seem to be going.

Expose the truck people on facebook. I told my story about ordering bracelets for my grand daughters and having my credit card billed and not getting the bracelets and I got a credit back swiftly.

Yes, negative reviews are important to post.

Get rid of 'stuff' so you don't need a rental truck!!

Too late. All out of the storage place, anyway.

Budget. Maybe you get what you pay for. Or maybe that's their way of saying, "don't expect much from us".

The price was the same for trucks. I guess "budget" does not mean "bargain" here.
