Bird is Feeling Better.

Birdie has stopped all screeching, and has become social again, answering with a short chirpy squawk when I say something to him. He improved after I did some snipping of his wingfeathers again. I hadn't noticed how fast those feathers are growing -- usually that happens in spring, not now -- but they were enough to really, really bother him.

Still, I'm trying hard to get him to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables instead of so many mealworms.

Here he is watching me.

And here's (one iteration of) Bird Village, just after I'd changed the cloths and washed the vinyl underlayer. There's a puppy pen around most of it, and his little wooden things placed here and there. I used to lay the wooden pieces out for him to walk on, but changed them to suit his wish to find more places to hide. Behind the red tablecloth is his bathing and wet-food area. 2 big bowls back there.

There are also 2 big bowls full of seed at one end of the Village, which he likes to stand in and eat. I think the seed gives his feet good support since it packs together around his toes like sand.

He almost never strays beyond the borders of the village, because he knows it's his. But once in a while, like when I went away for a few days and a friend came over to take care of him, I found him under a living room table. I think he may have been looking for me, or just upset by the change.

Great looking bird. So nice that he loves his space (and you).

I'm glad he's feeling better. What a lucky bird he is, living in that Lincoln Log-looking fantasy land.

What kind of bird is he? I had 2 cockatiels, 18 zebra finches and 2 budges but because of breathing problems had to give them all up and I still miss them!

A starling. He's around 11 or so years old now.
