Water Heater Disaster

I went out into my garage at 2:00 to get glue to discover that my water heater had sprung a leak. The water was pouring out of the bottom! My garage was flooded, and once the water heater is replaced, I am going to have a real job cleaning up out there.
I turned off the water, and I hate to admit this, but I refused to shut off the gas, so the guy from the plumbing place came out (nearly 3:00 a.m. by then) to shut it off for me. I was afraid to turn off the gas!
Guess I am getting timid in my old age. Once upon a time, I would have made myself do it. I was fearless and would have tried anything. I installed all of the fans and fixtures in my house, built my decks, did all of the plumbing repairs and all of my own painting and papering... but that little red knob was more than I could handle. What if I did it wrong and blew up the house?
I am here waiting for the plumber to return to replace my water heater. This is going to be expensive! Ouch!

Nothing worse than a piece of equipment going bad. It's money that has to be spent, and it is never cheap.

No, I don't know how to keep pace with the mounting expenses.

Those kind of things can ruin a day. On a positive note, a new one will last your lifetime. Hope by now, life is back to normal.

Hope it lasts a lifetime. The "old" one was only 16 years old.

Water heater failures are a double whammy: the expensive of a new one, and cleaning up from the flood. I know what you mean about being afraid of the gas shut off - we've got too much imagination!

Like I said- getting timid as I age.

Horrible how these things keep happening.

That definitely doesn't sound like a fun experience. When things go wrong with a water heater, there always seems to be a major mess to clean up! I hope it doesn't take you too long.

I wish the saga had stopped with auto repairs and replacing the water heater.

Have you checked out the tank less water heater.
A little expensive but worth it.

I can barely afford to replace this one let alone go with a whole new installation.

So sorry you have to deal with this, Dottie. I also worry that my in-apartment closet electric water heater will leak.... Aaacckk! ((((Hugs!))))
