Pure Fun ...

I have been so focused on learning new things, entering shows and exhibits and trying to sell my art that sometimes it was too much like work and no real fun. Well, this one was pure play. Both the swimmer's legs and the shark fin protrude from the canvas. They are shaped from clay and screwed on using a slat of wood behind the canvas to keep them from tipping or falling off. I'll never make money on this one, and I can never make prints, but I had two days of pure fun playing around. While I had a good day, this is definitely a "Bad Day"... for the swimmer.

Doing this one has made me think about all sorts of playful things to attach to the canvas to make interesting 'art'. A lot of the ideas are going to be messy to create; things like soaking fabric in gesso and laying it over the canvas, carving little doors that open to reveal an image beneath- just all sorts of fun things. I don't plan on making collages; just art that utilizes 3D elements. I'm not making any money, so I might as well have a blast!

Oh no! Something went wrong in posting this image and the shark is cut off!

I can't think of anything that hasn't been said,
but I like it.

I leave the 'details' to God and maybe to the viewer. If I really wanted to paint details I would take photographs. Painting (as you know) is not to copy nature. It is to invent it.

What creativity. I can't see the shark, but I can definitely tell the swimmer is in trouble.!! Good job, Dottie.
