I screwed up a matt and they are expensive, so I decided to use it as part of a painting. The photo is too red and I will have to rephotograph it in the right light (this was in shade) but you get the idea.
This is all lazy painting. I worked quickly so as not to overpaint and get lost in the details. I did my image of Christ falling the same way. This approach seems to work. What made it even harder to detail is the lion is painted on acrylic paper using acrylic paint. Paper just does not accept paint the same way as a canvass. At least the matt was not a total waste!
