Exhausted

I woke up this morning feeling like I had a hangover- and I have not had anything alcoholic to drink in weeks. I had a headache and ached, not like flu symptoms, but like bone-dead tired. After being up for a while, I took an afternoon nap, and when the phone woke me up three hours later, I felt better. My sleep was deep enough that I dreamt. I guess I needed that sleep. I spent way too many hours of the last few days finishing up newsletters, on some days as many as sixteen hours and well into the night. I was never this tired before just from working on newsletters.

I am preparing dinner as I write this: beef flavored Rice-a-Roni, brussel sprouts and small beef stakes with onions. I love Rice-a-Roni though I will admit beef is not my favorite, but since I am having steaks, it works. I think I mentioned that I am not a beef eater. I prefer pork, chicken and fish, though once in a while, beef is good. I suppose what is really good is that this will be enough for several meals and a snack or two.

Canned Brussels sprouts, I supposed? Yuck. Take care now!

Is there such a thing as canned brussels sprouts? More likely frozen?

Actually, it was created and introduced by a SF noodle company. It is a variation on a private recipe by an Armenian friend of the family that owned the 'Golden Grain' noodle company. The owners of Golden Grain company were Italian immigrants, by the way. NPR did a special on them some years ago.

I feel so much better today! I must have really worn myself out.

Take care. Sometimes our body just crashes, forcing us to get the rest we need. I am glad the nap was helpful.
I have never had Rice-a-roni, but have always wanted to since it was always a prize for the game shows in the 1970s and 1980s. I should just break down and give it a try.

It is actually very good, especially the chicken and Parmesan flavors, which coincidentally, were the first flavors they made. All it is, is small pieces of vermicelli combined with rice and chicken flavoring (or Parmesan, pork, etc.,). It is very easy to make. Just brown the vermicelli/rice mixture in olive oil, add water and the seasoning and let it simmer for 15-20 min. It is wonderful for meatless dishes. Cook vegetables, cut into small pieces and add during the last three minutes.

Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco treat! I've always wanted to ask someone from San Francisco just why they call it that. Do you suppose restaurants serve it there?

Oops! My reply went into its own box at the top!

It was produced as a copy of a restaurant's rice medley in Chinatown. (The original version.) That's one story. I heard another: A Chinese chef and an Italian chef got together and mixed up their recipes. MOL (It is rice and vermicelli pasta.)

Sounds like it's time for some "you" time, free from a schedule, to do just what pleases you. Take care of yourself, Dottie!
