The Adventure Continues

A few days ago on the way back from the store, I saw the most beautiful sky. It was after a storm and the sky was still thick with clouds against a steel blue sky. If I could paint clouds like that! The parking lot was full of crows. It is always crows or seagulls. Seems when one arrives, they chase the others off.
I don’t get out enough. I was on my way to Borders Books, but it seems they closed down. When did that happen? Yes, I read they were closing up shop, but somehow, I thought our store survived because they were open after I read about it.
I went to Borders because I need books to teach me how to use Adobe CS 5.5 Design Premium software. It is a package of programs for print and web design. The full price for this program is $1,899 but the Auxiliary got a license for me for only $150 (they paid for it).
At any rate, I get these programs- and there are several- InDesign, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop and several others, but I can’t figure out how to use them! Oh, I know my way around Acrobat (producing PDFs), and while my experience level in Photoshop Elements is ‘expert,’ my experience level in Photoshop CS5 is somewhere between ‘beginner’ and ‘intermediate.’ The rest of these programs, well, if there is a step below ‘beginner,’ then place me there! I opened these programs and all I could say was “Whoa, Nelly!” (Those are not the words I used. I can’t publish what I really said here on MyBloggers!) That is why I went to Borders, and with Borders gone, I had to order the books online. I am waiting for them to arrive. These programs don’t even include templates. Templates have to be purchased separately. At least with a template, I could muddle my way through. I am tempted to buy a template package, but I already spent $60 on books.
I already told the Bridge not to expect to see the Breeze in new designs and formats until next year. It will take me the rest of the year to figure out how to get started, and another year to become truly proficient. Even the courses are expensive- another $799 to learn the programs? I don’t think so! I will muddle through on my own.

And I went to the local hardware store for something, and THEY were out of business! I said the same thing--like "drats". Now I have to go to the big city.

I am glad you have it and you will soon have it figured out. I love
the picture and I love the wickedness of crows.

I have used Adobe software since they started up in 1985 or 86. The Creative Suite, which you have, is what I have, with the exception that mine is way back version 2 point something. I could not afford to upgrade it anymore. An upgrade from 2 to 3 would have cost me 800.00 and since then the prices have gone higher. I am fine with my version, except that I use GoLive for web design instead of Dreamweaver (which they bundled instead of GoLive after they bought Macromedia Inc.) You are starting out with no knowledge of any of the programs in CS except for Acrobat? Get a book, check online at Amazon. Cheaper than any bookstore. The bookstores are all closing now. It won't be long before B&N is gone, too. Sad.

This software scares me! I am already beginning to learn InDesign (no books yet- just fiddling) but the other programs are still beyond my grasp. The books should arrive Tuesday. (I hope)

It's exciting and daunting at the same time.

I was using Adobe PageMaker back in the day, but this new stuff eats my lunch. Good luck. You're smart enough to figure it out. Photoshop has loads of neat features. Can wait to see some of your work, if you can post it here.

Yes, Adobe went from Page Maker to InDesign. I am learning through experimentation. I can create a print page/booklet. I am learning how to thread text, place images, etc. I am learning by reading the knowledge base and watching videos on YouTube.

This is a little bit heavy for me.I just have the simple Adobe and even that have to work at it.
Good luck,it may take some time, but you will be able to handle this.enjoy the holiday first and then attack this.

Fortunately, there is YouTube. You can learn anything on YouTube!

I would love to have that package! I have to use those programs through work, but our versions are a bit old. They are tough programs to master. I don't consider myself a master at all. I am sure you will do wonderfully with them.

I could never afford it on my own. Getting it through the Auxiliary is a blessing. They opted to get this for me, I think, to compensate for eliminating the print edition, and to help me build a true web-based newsletter.
