Smelly Clothes

But probably not in the way you are thinking.

I'm sensitive to chemical fragrances (which are often bad for you chemicals) so I only do laundry with "fragrance-free" detergent.

I can smell the detergent on other people's clothes.

Just this week, while I was running in the morning, I passed a teenager waiting for the bus by the side of the road. The wind is still, and it's a damp morning, but I can smell the detergent on him from 20 feet away!!

I bought an expensive sweater for cheap at a consignment store this week, and I can smell it from across the room - hanging in my closet! Another top I had bought I tried everything to get the smell out - washing, vinegar rinses, airing it out - and it still smelled of detergent (it finally wore off after about 4 months or so!).

Do you notice how strongly most detergents smell?? I HATE Gain - it's a nice scent, but it's extra strong and annoying.

Unless the scent is coming from natural ingredients, it's probably a cocktail of harmful chemicals. Chemicals that you are touching and breathing all day. :(

Not to mention what soap does to a septic system. And talk about you "lake front" property--we received 4" of rain in 2 days. Our poor farmers--fields are drowned.

My garden drowned. I planted the day before the rain started. It wasn't supposed to rain as much as it did. Waiting to see what survived.

I use Tide free all the time.not the smell but allergic to it with my skin condition.Yes older people lose their sense and smell that is why mostly women pour on the perfume or whatever they have.I do not used any of these.
I smell great all the time.Organic

I was so happy when those "free" detergents and concentrated detergents came out! My mom used to have HUGE boxes and bottles for laundry detergents, and now I have tiny bottles that last months.

I'm allergic to detergent and softeners that contain dyes and perfumes, so I only use the Arm & Hammer or ALL "Free" ones that don't have the smelly crap. At the laundromat I have to check the dryers, too, to make sure that last user didn't put in those anti-static dryer sheets. The smell of those sheets strangle me.

I mostly use Nature Clean laundry soap - it comes in either fragrance free or an orange scent made with essential oils (which don't bother me).

I know what you mean about chemical sensitivity. I notice the smell of fabric softener and dryer sheets that gets blown out through dryer vents in the neighborhood, certain underarm deodorants that people wear, and those strong perfumes. Over the years that I worked for a manufacturing company I developed a sensitivity to formaldehyde and other chemicals to the point that it takes less and less to get a reaction - a tightening of the chest, or a drying out of the lips.

I've noticed the smell from dryer vents too! I try not to use anything that is scented anymore - but it's everywhere - why is face cream scented???

Sadly as people get older they lose their sense of smell--that's why old and older women throw on the perfume and men the cologne--especially when they are 'going out'!

Aaaahh! So that's why old people smell funny (or have very bad BO). They can' smell it, so they don't even know...!
