No Nuts

I don't have anything as exciting as disappearing nuts to report. I can report that I'm working too many hours, that I'm running often, that it's cold out, that my kids are doing well in school, I'm sick of working, that .... I think that's the end of the list.

My last pay cheque had 48.25 hours on it (two weeks). I prefer it to be 40, and haven't had more than one day off work in a row for about a month now. After tomorrow (a 6.25 hour split shift day), I get 5 DAYS OFF!! YEAH!! I need it!

I ran my farthest distance ever last Sunday - 11.48k according to my Nike+ thingie which is always a bit off. But Lance Armstrong congratulated me on my longest run, so that was nice. This weekend, I'll try to go just a little bit farther. I want to prove to myself that I can run a long distance before I actually put down the money for a half marathon. And I thought 10k would be my limit!

Yup, it's cold. Just above freezing most days, down to -11c some nights. And I do run in -11c just fine.

I'm starting the Christmas shopping. I only buy for my family, so it's not a huge deal. After last year's buying thoughtful gifts for my family, and receiving nothing in return (my brothers) or a bag of generic cheap stuff (my mom), I decided to make a photo calendar and just pass that out to everyone. And it can be a gift for DH and kids too. And in laws. So I created 12 digital scrapbook-type pages featuring something special about that month (kid's birthday, snow, Christmas, school's out, school starts, etc). I ordered prints of the 12 pages which I'll pick up tomorrow and see how they look before I order 10 calendars. Then I just have to buy a thing or two for DH, and a bunch of stuff for the kids and I'm done (easier said than done!).

Despite all your hours working, you're still finding time to run. That's good. After I watched the NY Marathon last weekend, I've had the motivation to hit the pavement. Unlike you, however, I'm a fair weather runner. I tried jogging the other day against a 40 mph wind--finally giving up (I have to go at least a mile east or west before "turning the corner" N-S). And thank goodness I don't give Christmas presents.

I make running/exercising a top priority. Behind kids, work, animals, ahead of grocery shopping, house cleaning...

The calendars sound like the best idea, a good family tradition. I shudder to think of people shopping for loved ones at the Dollar Store. It still is the thought that counts, but that's not what I consider a thoughtful place.

Yup, some of the stuff I've gotten from my mom came from the dollar store.

I'm stressing already about Christmas. Money is short. Need a parttime job but can't stand on my feet because of my knees, so I will buy for the grandkids and that will probably be it.

Good idea - no need to stress yourself financially.

My son (more probably his wife) made calendars for us one Christmas. It was great. I'd pare down the number of people I need to buy gifts for but I enjoy the giving part. 20 gifts for family plus one for a a family friend....oh and the nephew has a significant other this year so make that a total of 22 people to buy for. Yes, I am crazy.

The giving is fun, especially if you have the time and energy (and $) to find something that is special/useful to them. But when it's returned with unthoughtful gifts from your own mother... forget it.
