GILBERT, AZ -- A stubborn and probably hungry cat trapped in the drywall of an East Valley home has finally been rescued from that house.
The owner thinks the cat could have been in the walls since mid-January.
According to A
BC15 Photojournalist Wayne Berkowitz, the owner of the home, the cat came out Thursday morning through a hole in the master bedroom of his newly built house.
Construction workers cut those holes on Thursday, one behind a second floor tub where the cat had gone Wednesday night.
All the drywall on the first floor had also been removed the day before in an effort to get out the cat before it headed upstairs.
After several unsuccessful attempts, a new hole was cut in a master bedroom wall, where the cat was finally rescued, but not without coaxing and some scratching.
Berkowitz said, "All the dry wall on the first floor is gone. Workers are now coming in to start repairs."
A spokesperson for the Arizona Humane Society said the cat belonged to a neighbor.
That neighbor was expected to claim the cat from animal control as soon as possible.
As for Berkowitz, he and his wife will be staying at a hotel until workers can repair the damage done to his home.

It's good to see you on here Cindy!!!
How are you coming along with the house improvements?
Glad the cat came out ok though... wow!
unreal
Thankfully the cat found his/her way out of the wall. It's amazing what these creatures can do -- they really do have nine lives
Poor thing...glad it's ok..
I wonder how the poor little guy got food and water? I'm glad he/she is finally safe!!!!!!!!
Thank heavens that cat is alive after all that time!
Oh, poor kitty!! Well, poor house... I guess all's well that ends well.
What a sweetie!
She kyewt!
wow!that is so incrediable that he lived that long.
I bet there are no mice in that house. If he has been there since January, he had to find something to eat in other to live!
Unbelievable. I can't believe the cat had been in there since January and was still alive!
