What's Wrong with the Post Office?

Two weeks ago today, I sent a letter to my mom at the condo she and her friend are renting. She hasn't received it. I haven't gotten it back. It's pretty important; it's the handicapped parking permit that belongs to her friend.

I've sent other items in the interim. One got through, others haven't. Her friend's son has also mailed things - notably the new pair of glasses he needs and those haven't been delivered either. Nothing has been returned to either of us. There's no way to trace a first class envelope. I have to allow another week for it to be returned. That's 3 weeks!!!

Today I called the post office. I called the main one in downtown Ft. Myers, figuring they would handle it or give me another number to call. They told me I had to call the office in their zip code and gave me a number. I called it. No one answered. I was referred by 3 more stations before I finally got someone who looked it up and called the correct place to make sure she was giving me the right one.

I called that number and no one answered. Then it was disconnected. I waited and called again. It rang for another 70 seconds or so before it was finally answered. I finally got all the information I needed to help them get their mail!

What a huge waste of time and effort - I spent 40 minutes calling 5 different post offices? No wonder they keep losing money - they are terribly inefficient.

Are the employees trained to talk over the caller? Is the background muzak and other noise deliberately amplified to block out the voice on the other end of the phone? The conversations were frustrating, to say the least.

I think I have solved the problem of them not getting their mail. I am about to test it with a package. It will have a tracking number.

I spoke to the boyfriend yesterday and he said the tag arrived. So, where the he!! was it for the past two and a half weeks??? On the other hand, the package his son sent to him a few days later was returned. What the heck is that about? I sent a package with mom's address book on Monday. We'll see if she gets it.

I agree with Marta. Go over their heads. Give the names and numbers you called. These lazy employees should be fired.

I thinking of writing a letter to the big boss. I sure don't want to call him.

Tracking numbers ROCK! I hope everything gets found soon...

Well so far, the handicap tag showed up after 2 1/2 weeks, but the box his son sent went back to him. Nitwits!

I tracked mail for my friend who left his rental house here for a new location and was worried his government checks would be sent back because they are not forwardable. It was a semi-nightmare, but I got everything done. I don't know if it's Florida, but I can tell you the problems here seem more stupid than they were in NYC. Also mail kept being sent back to our New York address, even though we had notified them of our permanent residence here after we made the big move. I think these people belong to the Tea Party. Duh.

Many years ago, a child support check got returned by the mailman. He couldn't or wouldn't tell me why, but it caused me no end of he!! with the Friend of the Court, not to mention the upheaval to my finances. Apparently it's a chronic problem, government types just don't want to do their dam jobs.

the first thing I would have done and had this track. It cost only .70
this way here at least you can track the letter or package.
If anything special or value you should have this done.
One cannot trust anyone.I would not blame the PO.I will blame the employees. This could happen.Nonetheless you should report this and good luck.Did you keep your receipt?the safe way is to buy delivery confirmation and this is very helpful. But that is up to you.Their is a lot of way to protect your mail.

You're right Fredo, but it's hindsight and I can't change it now. If it ever comes back to me, I will make sure it's got a tracking number.

Never thought about the congressman. That's a good idea.
