I had an eventful trip down in the boyfriend's van. Of course there's a dog in the story. I pulled into a rest area in north Georgia and found a stray black lab puppy.
Too shy and scared to come right to me, I got help from a trucker who had a female lab just finishing her first heat. The stray was intact and very interested in the little female. While he was distracted, I slipped a makeshift slip lead over his head and he instantly relaxed. He looked up at me with the sweetest expression and seemed to understand that I would take care of him.
An after hours vet hospital gave me contact info for a couple of rescue groups. I left messages for both and went off to find a motel for the night. The lady from the Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia called me first thing the next morning. Her husband picked him up and he's available for adoption.
They named him Brewster; here's a link to his page: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18659798
He's heartworm positive, so he needs treatment. They're looking for donations to offset the cost.
