Losing My Way

My gps gadget doesn't have Gary, IN in its database. It doesn't have Chicago either - just something called Chicagoland, but that doesn't include Gary or East Chicago or even Evanston where my friend lives.

Naturally, I didn't discover that until I was on the way there last weekend. It showed me right where I was, but I needed to know how to get there! I set it aside and watched for signs. When I picked it up again, it refused to show any maps. For some reason, it seemed to think that I was in the middle of the ocean or something because it kept telling me there was no road near my current location so it couldn't give me directions.

I ended up doing a major reset and lost all the addresses I had entered for months...Then I connected it to the computer and did an update. It still doesn't know Gary, IN.

Apparently only part of the software loaded when I attempted to load it. I got great response from Garmin and they had the problem solved within a couple of hours. Thanks for stopping - good to hear from you.

I love paper maps too. But I got lost trying to come home from a friend's house way out in the boonies, in the dark, last January. I got so lost I was scared and that has never happened before. Hence, the next day it was off to Best Buy with my gift card.

Can you return it? That doesn't sound very useful....

I think it's too late. I bought it last winter.

I love maps! I have oodles of them from nearly every place I've visited. I also have an atlas and I was shocked that it wasn't in the car...

Those are the links to the yahoo groups that the email addys belong to. The top group would probably be most helpful for what you need. You probably have to join in order to post a ?, but with 1700+ members you are likely to get a useful response. Let me know if it doesn't work out. There might even be a group for your specific unit.

If it's a Garmin I can give you some email addresses of list-serves that can help you. If it's not a Garmin, you're probably screwed. Ok, not really, but I don't know what support available for other brands.

Yup, it's a Garmin. I would like those addys. Thanks John.

No wonder you haven't visited mybloggers in such a long time--your gps is on the blink and you got lost. Hope all is well.
