For a couple of weeks every year, Grand Rapids holds an exhibit/contest called ArtPrize. It's just amazing! There are more than 1700 pieces entered, but it would take days to see them all. They are scattered all over the city. The contest winners are decided by the viewers - people like me. It's a great idea, started by one of the Rick Devos, grandson of one of the founders of Amway Corporation.
The grand prize? A cool quarter million bucks! All of the top ten artists get money - tenth prize gets $7,000.
My mom rarely walks anymore and I just had surgery on my foot so I rented a couple of Amigo Scooters for us to ride around on. It was the perfect thing and a really good price. An added benefit was that I could keep track of my mom easily.
