Airing Out the House

When I had a new furnace installed 10 years ago, I included central air condition. Except for a future selling point, it was a mistake. I've yet to turn on the AC this summer.

First, we've had but one day in the 90's. It's been a relatively cool summer.
Secondly, surrounding trees keep my house pretty well shaded.
Third, I keep the house closed up except for a basement window and the "attic" windows (my third floor is finished with 2 bedrooms and bath). So hot air escapes and is replaced with cool basement air.

I can feel the "wind" moving through the whole house. It's never been over 75 degrees inside this summer. However, I do have some humidity issues, but they're minor.

As a side note, I had 100 gallons of propane delivered yesterday at nearly $4 a gallon!! And people wonder why I heat my house with wood. Propane is my backup for when I'm gone to... let's say Florida in January (hint hint Dorothy, Shelly, Laurie)!

Enjoy your weekend everybody.

I have an air conditioner, but I have only used it once in four years. Not too eco or budget friendly. And the cats like the windows open. So a fan works fine when need arises. Just now it is so gorgeous and coolish warm in the mid-70s. Soooo pleasant! Should last all week, too! Yay!

p.s. Since I live in the high dessert part of Oregon, I have a water cooler in my window for my AC. The biggest problem is that the little tree toads keep finding their way in through the cooler. Hey... maybe the mosquitoes are getting in that way, too.

I've been running my AC all summer. When I was a child, summer in Oregon meant putting on a fleece jacket in early evening. Even the mosquitoes would hybernate every night. Well... it sure has changed and now I even run the AC until way after dark and as for the mosquitoes.... I get most of my bites at night.

My mother-in-law has both a/c and a forget what it’s termed but it’s a bloody big fan in the ceiling upstairs…I open my basement windows and it draws the cool air up all through the house. Makes a gawdawful racket when it comes on but sure does the job.

I do not have AC.It has been somewhat warm but not all that
bad.I will never buy a AC cannot stand it.Who needs it.
I don't.Not good for the enviorment. You know what I mean.
Shut it off and just enjoy the weather.

Our a/c runs on electricity. It is on for most of the year. It
is a blessing, particularly this summer with 90 degree heat sometimes
hitting by 8 a.m. You can add our house to your list
of Florida vacations. We have a pool. We have water views from every window. When are you coming?

My AC comes on the second it gets over 70; but my furnace does not come on until it gets below 40.

Our summer fill of propane was $2.11 a gallon. The price probably shot up after they were here. One of these years you'll be glad you got the AC, and like you say for the resale value since so many people think they can't live without it.
