My Apologies
It has been brought to my attention that a few people might have been disappointed or upset or angry about my Haiti post last week. It seems my ''anger'' regarding the situation in Haiti is unfair because I mentioned that the US has only sent 10 percent of what was pledged while the other 90 percent sits in Congress while people are homeless and dying of cholera, malnutrition, and lack of medical facilities one year after the event. It appears I failed to mention other countries holding onto payments but I didnt know which other countries are doing that....I'm sure there are quite a few...but I didnt know exactly which countries. The info about the US was a quote from Anderson Cooper on the day of the one year anniversary....he or his producers or researchers discovered this when they did research for the show. On hindsight I suppose I should have done some research myself and included other countries as well and for those who were offended, I express my sincere apologies. The other bone of contention is the fact that I expressed my personal thoughts on whether Haiti's circumstances might be due to the fact that it is a poor and predominantly black nation, and that this situation would be less probable if this was a nation of predominantly whites.Am I being a racist for expressing my feelings in this regard? This is an opinion I have seen expressed by many in the print media and one or two in the news or talk shows on tv. I happen to agree with the sentiments expressed and still have visions of New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.I loathe and abhor racism, prejudice, discrimination more than anything else in the world. To be considered a racist for expressing my view on the Haiti situation is very hurtful but I can understand there are people who would feel hurt by my presumption as well. To those people, I apologize.Expressing one's thoughts or opinions in blogs is becoming difficult or controversial because everyone has their own opinion on issues and if yours differs from theirs....especially on very emotive subjects, you can hurt people's feelings. I dont like hurting people's feelings and if I do I will always apologize for doing so, but I will not apologize for having my own opinions regardless of what they are. However, you know what? this is not about you personally and if you take everything you read that you dont agree with as a personal attack against you, you have a problem my friend. I've been told on more than one occasion, if you want to blog, grow some thick skin...otherwise dont blog. This is a work in progress for me too, so I get it.
