Annie Dog Update

Our German Shorthair Pointer, Annie Dog

Today wasn't so good for Annie Dog. Where they removed the tumor on her lower jaw and down her neck, she became very swollen. The incision is about 4 inches long.

I took her to town this afternoon to the vet and they used a needle to withdraw a huge amount of fluid. By the time I got her back home, it was swollen again. I should have watched them do the procedure so I could do it at home.

Tonight I put a hot pack on her for 20 minutes as they recommended. She seemed to like the feel of the heat.

Personally, I think they should have put a drain tube in the incision.

Hope she is better soon. Still waiting for the biopsy results.

Annie :o)

I hope she doesn't have cancer. A dog I had as a kid had an abdominal tumor that was removed. The vet that did the procedure said that he got it all and he would be fine. Two weeks later, two tumors took its place. We got a second opinion and that vet told us the original tumor had spread and was internal as well as external. It was in his chest and abdominal cavity. He recommended euthanasia and sadly that was what my parents chose. It sucks losing a best friend like that. I dread when my pooches have to cross the rainbow bridge.

Sending good wishes. I'm sorry JR isn't there to help comfort her. I'm sure he's hating being away while she is going through this and not being there with you.

I hope she is better soon too Annie... I don't know they won't put in a drain, they did it for one of my cats, they just had to stitch it in.... maybe you need to ask them TO PLEASE put a drain in... sometimes they just do the easiest thing. Good luck

Nice doggie. I hope she heals up well. Neck and jaw areas on both people and dogs get swollen so easily. Reminds me of my sister's wisdom teeth. After she had them removed, her face kept swelling because they didn't tell her she should switch to cold packs -- after first using heat.
